no you cant use software to oc it, but still the Q6600 is the best choice. Not the fastest in games as that would be the E6850, however up and coming games like Crysis will benefit immensely from quad core. so in fact the Q6600 is the best one to buy because it will last you longer into the future. Also applications will start to use more cores and so again quad core>dual core

so i vote q6600

fx-74 - that makes me laugh

f= funny what a dumb idea 4X4
x= xtreme stupidity, even die hard amd dudes did not buy into 4x4

how do you lump fx-74 with those 2 intel chips?

socket f = was named this way: R&D came up with 4x4 and said we are "f ed" when they saw the qx6700, so they left a "f" by the new socket. Marketing not knowing they R&D thought they were "f ed" named the socket f - thats why we have it!

Time for the intel foot one socket f

You don't want to OC through windows utilities, it's too flaky. OCing through the BIOS on the Gigabyte mobo isn't too hard once you figure out the screwy way they have it set up. PM me and I will guide you through it.

If you do OC get a good aftermarket heatsink e.g., ultra120 extreme or equivalent.

I didn't say you shouldn't OC, you definitely should, just be very careful. A 3.0G OC with the Q6600 and a good HS is a free gift from the P35. Like I said when you get the Gigabyte mobo, if you do, I will send you screen shots to OC. It's easy, just PM (personal Message) me. If you do get a Gigabyte board get this RAM Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 800

What will you be using it for? If you're going to use it for gaming, Q6600 is your choice.

If you just want to impress your friend, Q6600 too.

If you just want a computer that goes online, but can't perform anything else, FX-74 :D [/intelliot]

Seriously though, even if you don't want OCing, Q6600 should still be your choice, as it will be a lot more future proof than E6850. Most new titles take the advantage of multi-core already (Supreme Commander, Crysis).

As for FX-74, it puts out too much heat, and in some cases, two of them cannot outperform a single Q6600.

That's pretty funny. First you ask him what he's using it for, as though that would matter, and then proceed to recommend the Q6600 no matter what he's using it for. :lol:

Don't get me wrong I agree with you, I just thought it was funny.
