More Information

Hi all. New here. Looking for a solution to a problem. I have a 250GB Western Digital external USB2 HDD (Acomdata brand). Worked fine for a year or so, then suddenly, Vista started seeing it as a CD-ROM.

I tried swapping the drive into a new case, on the chance that it was the USB adapter in the case that was at fault. No luck. Drive is spinning, blue light on front is lit. Just can't read it- Vista keeps asking me to insert a CD, and "Properties" reveals is as a CD-ROM with 0 bytes of data.

I'm capable with my PC's, but by no means technically educated/advanced. Please use small words? lol

Running Vista Home Premium on an HP dv9000t laptop with HP's multimedia docking station. Tried plugging drive into docking station & also directly into laptop USB ports- same results.

Thanks in advance!
