He probably means the 640 with the extra stream processors that is being rumored.

Reply to San Pedro

Yeah, I do. It isn't a rumor, though.

That would be such a weird thing. Isn't a 640 GTS + extra stream processors basically a GTX?.

It bridges the gap between the old GTS and the GTX. There is seven clusters open, rather than 6 or 8.

No, its still missing the ROPs (20) and Texture units (24) of the GTX (24 and 32 respectively). Also you could take into account that its still 320-bit mem interface...

18 more shaders will be nice though, I bet :D

So Nvdia (in a sense) is admitting that the GTS 640 was a poorly placed card?

Or are they eliminating the 320 (replaced by 8800 GT) and keeping a higher end 640?

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthre [...] 12&page=22

Before:
8800 GTS (320/640MB): 90nm G80 with 96 scalar processors enabled.
8800 GTX/Ultra 768MB: 90nm G80 with 128 scalar processors enabled.

Now:
8800 GT (256/512MB): new 65nm G92 GPU with x scalar processors enabled.
8800 GTS (320/640MB) -presumably old stocks-: same as before.
"new" 8800 GTS 640MB: same as before, but with 112 scalar processors enabled on the same 90nm G80.

This last one might end up being called "8800 GTO" by some partners.

This would be my bet (I'm not betting though) Oct 29th
$199 and $249 price-points (now rumored to be $179 and $229)
8800GT (DDR3 not DDR4)
256mb $179-$199
512mb $229-$249

Nvidia is placing a card just under the 8800GTS called the 8800GT and then placing one between the GTS and GTX, still calling it the GTS but my bet is that they call it something like the GTS+(plus). Who knows really, but the GT is spozed to be about the same at the 320mb version of the GTS but with a little better price and slightly less performance. I would also guess that this would drop the 640 GTS version closer to $300.

8800GT 256/512mb
256bit-96SP
8800GTS 320/640mb
320bit-96SP
8800GT(0?) 640mb
320bit-112SP

Who knows if any of this is true anyway, I'm just speculating

The 8800GT is going to replace the 320MB 8800GTS because it so much cheaper to make than the GTS.

8800 GT - G92 - is a anticipated counter attack. Ati is about to launch Radeon X2950,alias RV670.
IMO X2950 will come after Ati sells all "counterfeit" X2900XT - GT
Bioshock runs well even on 8800 GTS 320. The only reason to launch in next moths a moster .... 8900GTX 8950... 8999GTSVMegaX :D  will be Crysis, after beta ppl with SLI gtx got 25-30 fps on really eye candy setups.

Its not optimized in the beta, doesnt uspport quad core or anything like that, wait until the demo is released properly at the end of the month. ASince hte game uses a lot of physics, quad SHOULD make an enourmous advantage. And coudl explain all the low FPS people have been getting.

Here's a good article about the newer 8800GTS:
http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Nv [...] ml#Scene_1
The 8800GT will be close to the performance of the original 8800GTS, hense the slight change for the 8800GTS series.
