Greetings: I have an Opteron 170 on a ASUS A8N SLI PREM. MoBo. With DDR400 RAM, It runs at 2.7 Just fine. I feel that limit is due to the DDR400 and want to upgrade to something faster.

DDR800 will not fit the socket because of the divider slot placement. If I just cut a new slot in the DDR800 to match my DDR400 socket on the MoBo, will it run?

Has anyone done this? Will the A8N BIOS even manage the DDR800?

If not, is there something else that will work on my MoBo?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000170147+1052107965+1052407945&name=DDR+500+(PC+4000) Hi, any of these would be faster than the ram you have. :)

what voltages are you using and what cpu temperatures are you getting?

i also have a opteron 170 but i think i reached my limit at 2717MHz

my memory can stably handle another 10MHz but the cpu cant, even though at a overclock much higher, it can run prime 95 for 3 hours with no problem, the pc would suddenly freeze with 1 repeating sound of what ever way playing at the time, (doesnt matter what temperature the CPU had it still randomly freezes) this stops at 2717 MHz

Ouch, I got ahold of an Opty 165, keep that puppy running at 2.8 at 40C. Can push it to 2.9, but she likes to heat up. Im thinking about lapping my AF64 to see if that helps.

r u talking DDR2 800? i've never seen DDR 800, and if it exists, ther's not much point to having DDR2. it will not work with DDR2. DDR2 has more contacts and runs @ lower voltage and will be fried with DDR voltage.
