Hi Everyone.
I'm upgrading from my current system(P4-2.4, 1Gb, GeForce4) on a very tight budget.
I am looking at the ASUS P5k-SE as it is much cheaper here than anything else(NZD$139 vs NZD$190 for the Gigabyte P35-DS3).
I will be getting a Pentium Dual-core 2160 for it with the hopes of clocking it up to at least 2.8 Ghz. I'll also be getting 2 Gb of Corsair DDR2-800, and a Geforce 8600GT 256, probably an XFX.
Basicaly i want to know whether this Mobo will be able to do that decent of an overclock? It is easily the cheapest P35 mobo i can get and i know about the 'only 4 SATA ports' thing, but thats all i need as my burners are both IDE anyway.
Also, any other comments on the system spec would be welcome.
thanks

Hi henrypootel,

The P35 is one of the best overclockers about and so with the right cooling you should hit your target.
As for comments on the system, its looking quite good so far but if I was you I'd try and aim for a slightly better CPU to start with, maybe something like the E4500?

Apart from the previous post, i would say it depends on which version of the XFX 8600 your getting because the XFX range goes into the 3850 price range which is a much better card by far.

It's for gaming. Mostly Turn-based or Real-time strategy. Particularly Battle for Middle Earth, Heroes of Might and Magic, Perimeter. Also a bit of RPG like the Witcher, NWN2, Oblivion.
As i said, it is a very limited budget. I was looking at the bottom-of-the-line XFX 8500GT with 256Mb. not sure if this would be the best choice as i have heard good things about the 2600XT. I can't go higher than those 2 price-wise though. my graphics card budget is maximum NZD$250.
I will be sticking with the 2160 though. overclocked it should perform pretty well to get the system up-and-running. then i will be saving for something with a bit more power.
