Hello everyone,

I was just wondering what programs you recommend for hard drive maintenance, i.e. defragmenting, file cleanup, etc. I use diskeeper right now for defragmenting because I have heard it is better than the windows program. Also, how often should I run these cleanup programs?

Thank you,
Tim

I use System Mechanic, I usually run defrag once a week (normally start it before work, or before sleeping) 750Gb Seagate drive takes a while. Every other week I clean Temp files/internet files (be sure to clean the Temp folders as well) C:\Windows\Temp (or if on an Upgrade, C:\Temp) don't forget the Unzipped folder either.

I havent defragged a system in years. Keep track of where your files are going, disable system restore (for most users after you've installed everything, it serves no purpose) keep a virus scan running, and if your system is not just old - it will do fine for nearly the life of the drive.
