I didn't know exactly where to post this question but anyways. I will be moving to the UK in a couple of months. I've been trying to see what companies are available and what kind of services are offered over there for broadband. I noticed they all have download limits. I'm a serious online gamer. I play WoW, EQ2, CoD4 and what ever else online daily. My wife plays EQ2 as well. My question is, is it going to be a problem having a 20GB download limit per month based off my gaming and whatever else I may download (youtube, email, ect). I don't know how much data is sent back and forth while playing games so I hope someone can help.

First off, let me say that not all UK based ISPs have download limits. I'm on TalkTalk (40Gb up/down limit/month) but my sister is on Eclipse with no limits whatsoever. Keep poking around and you will find them. Virgin do a good deal with phone/tv/broadband, and though they do have a 40Gb limit it only applies during peak hours (6pm-Midnight).

As for how much traffic gaming generates, the best solution would be to try it and see. There's a very good little program called NetMeter which will track your total upload and download for each day, week, and month. At the moment the site is down for a few hours for maintainance, so I can't get you the download link, but a quick google search should find it for you when you're ready. Otherwise I can always email you the installation file (its only 600k). Then just let it run for a few days while you use the net as you normally would and see what your total comes out at. That should give you a better idea of exactly what sort of package you need to get when you get here.

Hope this helps.
