About to pull the trigger on this setup and wanted some last minute confirmation to see if there are any red flags

I allready have a Q6600 SLACR on order from Clubit that will be here shorty. I allready have an EVGA 8800 GTX 768 and a Samsung 226 BW that I will be bringing over from my old system.

Mobo:Asus P5K Premium Black Pearl: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131190

Memory: 2 X 2gb sticks Patriot DDR2 800 extreme performance 5-5-5-12: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220227

Case: Antec P182: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129025

PSU: Corsair 620 HX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139002

Drives: 3 X Seagate Barracuda 250 gb, 7200.10, 16mb cache, SATA 3.0Gb/s: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262

HS: TR Ultra 120- Extreme: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835109140

Optical Drives: 2X Samsung SH-S203B: http://www.newegg.com:80/Product/Pro...82E16827151153

Purpose for the new rig is:
1. Im enjoying learning more about computers and OCing and want to put together a nice system.
2. Online gaming

Im still debating between the Antec P182 and the Antec 900, or a CM stacker/CM 832 or something.....but I figure thats no big deal either way I go.....

Im not 100% sure on drives, but from my research thus far I purposely did not go with raptors since I have heard they are loud, and the barracudas should be close in performance and a ton quieter (i am told).

Im not 100% on the memory either and am waffling as well.

The CPU, Mobo, PSU, and HS im pretty rock solid on, unless someone tells me Im missing something......

Any red flags? Anything that doesnt look right? Am I forgetting anything? I need A5S, and the drives that I have listed dont come with SATA cables from newegg so I need those....sandpaper for lapping, zip ties, Scythe-S for the TR Ultra 120-E.....and.......?

Anything else?

Thanks,

Dawgdoc

To note...

1. P182 will house an 8800GTX however the upper harddrive bay will be unusable (as the length of the GTX puts it outta commissmion)
2. The P5K black pearl is a bit of a waste of money, you could scale back with a P5K-deluxe or even the P5K-E(that i own) you will notice little difference.
3. Why 3 harddrives? are you putting them in RAID? as you could get bigger capacities for a little less price and negate the need for 3
4. What operating system are you using? youll need a 64bit OS to cope with the 4gb of ram (although im glad your going 2x2gb)
5. The mobo will come with SATA cables (although not 3 usually 2).
6. What do you need 2 DVD-RW for?

That is all

First of all, nice work, nothing serious to object to.

I'd get two or three 500 GB disks, either 7200.10 or WD5000AAKS.
Also, get two different DVD-RW drives, each will have different strengths and software.
I'd recommend a GA-P35-DS3R (it comes with 4 SATA cables, btw).

TY both for your input so far.

Based on several other reviews and the poor fit of the 8800 GTX I have switched my case to a CM Stacker 832.

P5K Black Pearl - I like this board and some of the additional bios options, as well as the lack of a noticable Vdroop which is a problem with the P5K vanilla. The Premum black pearl is only like $20 more than the Deluxe FWIW :)

The # of harddrives are because I am going to run a RAID 0. I have subsequently decreased this to #2 instead of #3, and plan on increasing to 500gb perps instead of the 250gb persp to compensate.

OS - Dual Boot XP SP2, and Vista (unsure which version I am going to choose yet). I have been told though, that I SHOULD switch to 4x1 gb instead of 2x2 gb and that the 4 sticks will OC better than the 2 sticks. I have also switched to Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1066 mgz. Most likely 4X1 gb sticks although I am seeking more advice on that.

2 DVD initially was for copying disks/etc....but I agree that is a bit excessive so I have decreased the total number to 1.

Thanks again for the inital input I greatly appreciate it, and any additional input on the new information provided, or on the original post greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks!

No problem.

I still like 2x2GB combinations better, just because the next O/S may need 8 GB to work properly. Plus I remember somebody saying that 2x2GB is easier to overclock than 4x1GB. I'm clueless about overclocking but I'm sure somebody who does that a lot can clarify. Anyway, I hear Crucial Ballistix is great for OC.

aevm, have you seen the Christmas tree lights on the Ballistix Tracers? They are mezmorizing. Star Trek stuff. You almost have me convinced to try a build with the DS3R.

You may want to rethink the whole optical drive thing. nothing wrong with 2 burners. You will find yourself limited with one drive. I got a dvd burner for 30 and added a dvd drive for 20. One read, one write. plus added life, use one for gaming, one for burning.
Tracers are what I'm going with.
500GB fo sho. esp w/ raid 0. the WD5000 mentioned are some of the quietest available. Very good drives.

Vista is just like crack, just say no! or ignore me and prepare to suffer..
