Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice. At present i have a Galaxy GForce 7900GS running my Samsung 22" monitor which i use for gaming. I'm thinking of getting a 8800gs 320 meg (as i can't afford a 640 meg one) but is this a smart move, is it the right time to buy? Would there be enough visual/performance gain to justify shelling out the cash? Also would I start hitting power issues as i have an e6400 running at 3.0gig with 2 hd's on a 460w Enermax PSU.
Thanks for any advice or input.
Marcus.

I think that november is a safe bet for the new NVidia cards. From what i hear they are going to be built on the 65nm process so they will use less power.I am waiting and i'm still using a 7600gt.The 8600gt was a major screw up for NVidia when it comes to playing DX10 games unless they thought people wanted to look at slide shows.lol I just hope NVidia get their act together and that ATI starts giving them some real competion in the mid range to give them a kick in the pants

Yeah looks nice. Nice one for that.
It didn't say on the new egg link but i take it that it's dx10 ready.
So same question for this and the 8800's, will it be a good price drop come November or should i just get stuck in now?

Loving my 8800gtx, there is always a new gpu around the corner and like all others it will have a high and and mid and low end for consumers.
If it is about the $$ then maybe compare the prices of the new gpus that come out with the 8800gtx prices at that point.

I paid a premium for my 8800 and it only stung til it arrived, every game I play reminds me why I bought it.
there still over $500 now, over 600$ for the superclocked version.

Wait until the crysis demo comes out, see if you can play it alright, just as a little benchmark to see if you really need to upgrade

I bought my 8800GTX 9 months ago for $570 and it's been worth every penny. Hard to believe a card out for 11 months is still the fastest card on the market. (8800 Ultra doesn't count)

Yeah, it's DX10 ready - it's basically a slightly slower card than ATI's flagship, the 2900XT.

There is no concrete information out there as to what exactly will be released in November, but most people are saying it will be a mid-range card - so perhaps something between the 8800GTS and the 8600GT. This is speculation, though.

If I were you I'd get a card now. If you have the money for the 2900PRO I'd say it's a good deal.

Well i reckon i'll probably go with the 2900PRO. It doesn't sound like waiting till November is going to do me any major favours except save me 20 or 30 quid.
Thanks for all your advice.
