If I'm not overclocking and in BIOS, is 46-47 celcius too hot?
Any advice on lowering it down, without spending more than $50?

Thanks.

What CPU?

My E6750 at stock speed (2.6) runs at 15-20 idle, 30 load, I dont know if that extremely cool and the temperature sensor is broken or something.

Maybe a cheap way of getting the temp to go down a bit is put a PCI exhaust fan in the PCI slot nearest the CPU.

shortref, that is pretty darm cool IMO. then again i don't have any experience of core 2 duo's personally but in a room temp of 19 degrees my x2 4400 idles at 30C and a load of around 39-41C.

again though, to the OP, we would need to know your case, CPU and ambient room temp befvore saying if that is too hot, however, unless that is a p4 i say far too hot.

My CPU is Athlon 64 X2 4000+... on stock heatsink+fan.
Dang so it is too hot then... how do I cool it down, like get a better cpu heatsink+fan?

Thermal grease matters?

My case... well it's regular, nothing fancy... but I have both sides open... does that mess up the air flow thingy?

That should really give it cooler air

What should give it cooler air?

Edit1:
Is this good

Does thermal grease matter (ie: brand name etc)?

Thanks.

hmm, i am not a fan opf leaving case sides off as it doesn't really provide any more airflow. i prefer the front to back airflow myself.

the stock HSF's are good enough IMO, but you may wish to replace the thermal paste. anything will do really. just use a sandwich bag, spread some on the heatsink first of all and then wipe off against the grain, then agian using the bag spread a very thin layer on the CPU's heat spreader, note it is best to have a very thing layer, it does not need to be a solid finish. if you can still see the CPU's heat spreader that will be fine.
