Is adapting a 4 pin CPU power supply cable fine or should I find a power supply with an 8 pin?

The CPU power receptacle on your motherboard requires a 4-pin connector, quality PSU's are equipped with a pair of these 4-pin connectors for use with dual-socket motherboards like the ASUS L1N64-SLI: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131146

Find a PSU with a 8 Pin

It really depends on what processor you have. Newer motherboards that have an 8 pin power connector usually have 4 of them blocked off. You only need an 8 pin connector if you are running a Quad core processor or one of the Core 2 duo Extreme processors. The motherboard manual should confirm this. I have a Gigabyte P35 DS3p motherboard and it states the exact info I listed above. I have a quad core processor so I bought a powersupply that has the 8 pin connector. I hope this helps.
