It really depends on what processor you have. Newer motherboards that have an 8 pin power connector usually have 4 of them blocked off. You only need an 8 pin connector if you are running a Quad core processor or one of the Core 2 duo Extreme processors. The motherboard manual should confirm this. I have a Gigabyte P35 DS3p motherboard and it states the exact info I listed above. I have a quad core processor so I bought a powersupply that has the 8 pin connector. I hope this helps.
