Is there something wrong with my 8800 GTS?
Last response: in Graphics & Displays
I've compared my benchmarks with other users with almost identical pc setup as me but our details vary greatly.
For example: Under 1280*1024 resolution playing Team Fortress 2 on maxed out settings for everything.
My friend gets 120 fps +
I get 80-110 fps.
I've noticed that my fps for CS: Source seems lower than when I first bought this card.
I have the newest drivers. I haven't overclocked anything.
Also, when I am viewing a website, as I drag down the page, I can see a white shadow of the text trail behind when scrolling down. The same happens to any backgrounds such as grey. As I am scrolling down, it seems to change colour.
Thanks for any comments on this.

I get a white ghost on letters while scrolling too, never noticed it before today, must have been there all along. Probably the LCD and not the video card. How bad is the ghosting? You may just be worrying over nothing.
Run 3d mark and compare your scores to others with same system. What you have given us is a little vague to go on.

Sounds a little off.
My sys (see below) will get ~12,000 in 3d mark with a decent OC.
Try the usuals:
Driver uninstall (use a driver remove program)
Format (if u can be bothered)
Also (if u can) swap cards with ur friend. If he gets less fps, its the card, if not, could be one of the above or h/ware like psu/mobo... etc

I installed forceware and all my gigabyte chipset drivers. but i will reinstall drivers and see whats up. any other recommenations since I have already tried pretty much everything mrmez has said. thx for ur help btw =)

Now wait a minute in one of your earlyer posts you stated that your friend gets 120+ and you get 80-110 fps, then you said before you formated you got 140 fps. This means that you are getting more than your friend, so whats your problem again!?!

thats exactly what im talking aboutWhat exactly are you talking about? When ever you install a new program or game Windows installs them fraggmented and that slows things down. I defrag once every two weeks to keep things running smooth an fast. If you havent defragged at all after you Windows install you OS is fragmented, you need to defrag.
The reason your not getting the scores is the same reason I did. I also have a evga 8800gts and the base number's of like 500/1700 all you have to so is raise your clock's to the next level of card. Try 574/1800 and you will go from 9thow to around 11500 or so. It is just where your number's are set. this deal had me going for a couple week's as I allways Overclock my cpu&ram but not my video card. I used ATI tool or reva runer what ever you want also raise your fan speed to 100% on 3Dand 2D and you will be all set. Ba
What the hell are you talking about?? Ofcource 3DMark meens something!!! If I know that my system right now makes 8000 at 3Dmark and after I install something or switch drivers or whatever, I get 6000, then obviously something is wrong!! Yes, 3DMark isn't very reliable in comparing different systems with different video cards (they cheat with their drivers like NVidia did back in the FXdays) but for exactly the same system, it's a good bech.
There are several factors that will efect your 3DM06 score with defragging being one of them.
1. What drivers are you using?
2. Is CPU throttling enabled in BIOS?
3. How many processes do you have running in the background while benching with 3D06?
4. Are you sure the settings for your RAM and CPU are what the chips are running at (download CPUz from www.cpuid.com and check your speeds on RAM and CPU)?
Make sure 3D06 is set at defaults, defrage your HDD and ensure you have the latest drivers for the 8800GTS. If you have a lot of background stuf running then turn it all off after a fresh reboot. Some scores for caomparison:
Dual Core, slightly overclocked with 8800GTS overclocked:
- With and E6600 at 3600MHz and an 8800GTS 640MB at 660/997 3D)6 score was 11,588.
Quad Core:
- With a Q6600 clocked at 3905MHz and an XFX 8800GTS 640MB clocked at 660/997 3D06 was 13,010.
- With a Q6600 @ 3915MHz, 8800GTX at 688/1100 3D06 score was 15,060 on 3D06.

If you said the 8800 GTX then your right in both DX9 & DX10. Thing that can affect your score (1) G-card drivers (2) OC'ing (3) luck of the draw (4) system config.
Theres too many reasons why one person gets more than the other to make any real comparison. Thats why I care less about 3Dmark scores, I do however care about one benchmark frames per second. Which one of these benchmarks do you think is the best way of finding out what your system can really do?
I would say that it's a physical problem with your card. The easiest and most effective way to troubleshoot problems like this (especially when you have a mirrored system at your disposal-your friend's) is to just swap out his card for yours and see if your problem disappears. If everything else is the same, then you won't have to change a thing. I'm betting my left arm that it's the card itself and not any driver or software issue. Ghosting issues are almost always either a problem with A) your monitor being just barely forced out of frequency (where you are forcing a higher resolution/refresh rate than your monitor can take) or B) your card is fried. Usually the later. I hate to say that, but it's just been my experience that this is the case.
Driver issues usually don't result in ghosting issues like you are seeing. On the safe side, completely re-install your drivers and if it's still happening, then swap out your card with your friend's. If that clears it up, I don't think that I have to tell you it's the hardware.

Guys with quad-core CPUs: your 3DMark06 scores aren't good for comparison, even if you are using a GTS... your CPU alone is going to give you a sizable scoring advantage.
I would be looking at image quality settings, memory timings, driver versions... it's also possible your friend has overclocked his system, which would cause a difference...
