I reckon you'd get to 2.8Ghz fine. Looks like you've done your homework before buying. So if your new to overclocking read the Stickies, as they help shed loads. If you generally get stuck getting it to 2.8 just ask, all of us are here to help.

That setup looks sound to me for a budget medium/high range PC ;).

I am pro AMD, but if you go for intels 2140 and maybe a slightly more expensive mobo you could get 3Ghz easy.

Hello epic000, I just did my first build a few weeks ago planning to OC and it's very similar to yours. I also went with a GA-MA69G-S3H and a 4000 brisbane. Where we differ in OCing is I went for Transend Axe Ram and I just got an Asus Triton 70 CPU cooler today. Figured I'd let you know how my OCing is going since you plan on building a very similar system.

Made a post here on toms cause I was having alot of trouble OCing the CPU even just a little bit and the only way I could go past stock 2.1GHz was to change my ram from drr800 to drr677 which I didnt like doing. Heres a link to that thread

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/245388-29-need-looked-advice-please

Someone recommened I problay needed to bump my ram voltage up a bit to run it at 800 and they were right on the money. I started over with everything default, ram back on 800 and increased the volts from the stock 1.8v to an even 2.0v and then started rasing the FSB using the higest muilitplier. I made it all the way to 2.52GHz stable with full load temps peaking at 59c with the stock cooler. Passed Orthos 12 hour test with no errors and passed memtest with no errors thru 3 full runs.

I put on my new CPU cooler today and it dropped my full load temps down to 49c so I now have more room for OCing. I've been trying tonight to get 2.8GHz stable but having some trouble. I'm currently at 2.73GHz and still trying to get it stable. At a wall of 2.6 I had to bump my ram up to 2.10v to even boot my OS past 2.6 and now at 2.73 I got errors right away so I tried bumping the northbridge voltage up a minimum bump and that seemed to help since I orthos ran about 25mins before getting an error which is better than 2 min like before that bump. So I am gona keep trying cause I know like you said yourself 2.8GHz is very reasonable with this CPU and I have even heard of people getting 3.0GHz with good cooling. I'm pretty sure it's just my lack of experience why I cant get it stable yet, I get really nervous about voltage rasing but that does seem to be my instability issues atm.

Anyway hope this gives you alittle info on what your gettin into with this CPU and Mobo but keep in mind I'm a first time builder and OC'er still learning by research and trial and error.

question. i started ocing my stuff, got it up to 2.6 almost, it reset, backed it down to 2.5 and it started acting funny and resetting, bios is still limited on my k9a platinum (me and clolsed_deal have been talkin about this for a while) and now it wont hit 230fsb stable even with the nb voltage pumped to 1.9. did i break it with stock cooling? i think my nb is starting to become toast without butter or jelly...

I now have 2.84GHz running stable. Not only did I have to up volts but I also had to relax my ram from 4-4-4-12 to 5-5-5-15.

Specs to stablize 2.8GHz

Memory at 5-5-5-15 and 2.10v
CPU 270 FSB x 10.5 and 1.40v
Northbridge +.025v

I could go higher but I think my PSU would hold me back now that I have a 3850. Only using an Earthwatts EA380. When I tried to OC the GPU I had lack of power symptoms but with the GPU at stock settings my rig runs just fine. Eventually I am going to pick up an EA500 or Corsair 450VX to push my system even further before upgrading to a Brisbane 5000 Black Edition.

Ya it was .025

The 5000 BE for awile was $99.99 and that wasn't a sale price either, it was simply priced at $99.99 but I see its back up to $129.99 again.
