Does anyone have any experience with a blue ray rom in their machine. I am thinking of getting one but have some concerns.
1) is performance. The site states a P4 3.0 1.5gb ram and 30gigs of HD space. So I am guessing any core2 based computer would do the job with a decent GPU.
2) is HDCP. I have a HDCP capable graphics card, but my computer is hooked to a HD (720P) tv. So does that mean I won't get HD and just better looking SD.
I have a combo drive from LG that plays bluray/hd-dvd (see my profile), and i've had no problems with it. actually, i love it..=)
1) with a decent graphics card that does HD decoding, any core2 processor should give you good performance.
2) If you're TV is only capable of 720p, then you won't be getting "full" HD resolution (1920x1080p). 720p is still considered an HD resolution, but it's not the sharpest possible. HDTVs are HDCP compatible by nature.

Hey ya i have that same exact blue ray rom its really good.
Well u might want something faster then a p4 but you dont need any high end core 2 duo. Remember these days ur gpu handles it so make sure have a good graphic card. It would look better then standard but you wont get the full benefit. If you cant get a monitor at 1920 by 1080 try to least get 1680 by 1050.
I just bought the LiteOn DH-401S from Fry's, and i hooked it up with no issues, and even got the piece of crap PowerDvd 8 software, and it actually worked, UNTIL I tried to view it in full screen. I have the Gateway FHD2400 24" monitor, I also have dual EVGA 8800GT SC in SLI, I can start up a movie fine, and then when I switch it to view in full screen, the entire bottom half of the movie is wavey/blurry, but the top half is crystal clear. I followed the FAQ and went to the help section, but what it is describing to do, I cannot do. It tells me to click on:
Tools,
Video,
and mess with the interlacing function they have. Well geuss what it is greyed out. I have spent hours trying to figure out what the hell is wrong, and the only thing I can think of is that, I am trying to view video that is 1080p and view it at 1900x1200(my native res.), but I also tried it at 1680x1050, and got the same thing. Anybody have any thoughts on what i can do to make it work properly, before I return it. Oh by the way, I hooked it up to my wifes's pc which is newer than mine, and her's didn't even recognize the drive, it was if I hadn't plugged any anything new at all. What do you guys think?
