I can't get my Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and Intel Dual Core 2160 Processor to overclock at all.

First of all, I am a total nubie at overclocking and this is my first post. I read on Tom's Hardware web site how easy it was to overclock the 2160 processor with the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, so I thought this would be a good first OC system for me. I have built a few other systems, but never overclocked. I can not seem to get this system to overclock at all, so I am sure it's operator error. In addition to the MB and Processor, I installed a COOLER MASTER GeminII heat sink with 2 fans and Artic Silver 5, 2 gig of OCZ Platinum PC6400 (4-4-4-12 timing), a 430 watt Thermalake Power Supply, XFX GeForce 7100 GS video card and a 320G Seagate SATA hard drive.

I put the system together and installed Windows XP & drivers. I let it run for a day and all seems fine. Baseline temps are about 35C full load about 48. I thought this may be a little high for pre-overclocking?

I then entered the bios and first tried to go straight to 3ghz (9x X 333mhz) but upon reboot it immediately reset the mhz to auto. I did some reading and tweaked the CPU voltage, RAM over voltage, etc. I tried lowering the mhz, but every thing I try results in the system resetting to default. Below is an image of my last Bios settings which again resulted in the system resetting to the default. I would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations on what to change to help me get to at least 3ghz. Thanks!

WOW!!!!

Turn it down a notch!!!!

You need to watch what you are doing.
1) Change PCI-Express Frequency to 100. Your going to fry your 7100
2) Change Turbo to standard or the lowest setting
3) Your RAM Frequency is way too high. Its at 1333.
(What type of RAM is it? Also under Bios hit Ctrl + F1 and go under MIT and change timings to manual)
4) Only add voltage to the FSB if you go above 333 more past 350+
5) I too am unsure of what (G)MCH is but at 333 you shouldnt need to overvolt it

I really appreciate the help. I was able to go into the System Memory Multiplier and set it manually to 2.4 which kept 800mhz after I increased the FSB. This allowed me to successfully boot. So I am now running at 3ghz (9 X 333mhz).

I am a little concerned at my temps. Idle runs about 41C and full load about 69 (after 15 minutes). However, I am running two 80mm fans on my heat sink and it is designed for two 120mm fans (which I have on order) plus I have not installed a case fan yet. So I will be working to get the temps down.

Speaking of temperature, what is the average I should see with this processor at 3ghz and what is the max temp that I should not allow it to get to.

Also, below are images of my new bios settings and my Core Temp and CPUZ results. Any recommended changes?

Once again I appreciate the help.

You should read (and do) Coumputronix's Temperature guide at the top.
It's very helpful. (Will tell you everything you need to know about temps.)

Your Proc. is revision L2 so for the cores stay below 65 and for Tcase (in the guide) its 50

Edit: Also put PCI Express frequency to 100 not auto. You might damage the graphics card

Edit2: What are the stock voltage for your memory (check the specs on box)?? Standard is 1.8v so if its 2.1v up the DDR2 voltage by +0.3
