I was considering purchasing the 8800 GTS (640 MB version), but I had a few questions about the performance I had seen a mates machine.

He was running:
ECS PT890 Motherboard Socket 775
1066Mhz FSB
2.66Ghz Pentium D
2x 1g Patriot PC6400 DDR2 SDRAM
eVGA 8800GTS (640MB)
750W Silencer PSU w/ +12v @ 60A (way over the required 26A)
(link to PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817703009 )

I was watching him play CS:S at such terrible fps. He averaged maybe 20 frames @ 1280 x 1024 resolution w/ 4xAA and AF on high settings. I assumed this card was a beast and could run this game at 80+ FPS at such low resolution. Is this a common thing with the 8800 GTS? If not, is there a reason his system seems to be running it like a 2 year old card? (I did read some of the writeups about the 8800 on this site, and it seems like he should be getting much higher rates / performance from his card)

Just questions I wanted to ask before purchasing the card.

Ah, good to know. So I'm assuming with my Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz, I would actually see those numbers posted on the reviews. Cool :D

your e6850 and the gts will be great, but for future proofin you may want to consider the q6600. Unless you already have the e6850, then it's fine.
