Well my checks clear tomorrow so I'll be ordering my new setup tomorrow evening. I'm just debating about one last thing.. X1950PRO vs. 8800GTS 640mb. I understand that the 8800gts 640 is the clear dominant card, but I'm trying to take into consideration my budget, the rest of my build, and what I use the computer for.

I mostly play BF2 on my 47" LCD monitor at 1920 x 1080. Right now it runs pretty crappy with my AGP HIS Radeon x1600 series card and 2.8ghz Pentium 4 setup. I am keeping the monitor for the new setup.

Here is a list of what I'm ordering not including a video card. Is this power supply enough for the 8800gts? If not, I guess the decision is clear.

Lastly, someone mentioned in another one of my postings "Update the RAM!!", but never clarified what they meant. Is this ram not sufficient? Isn't it DDR-800?
Thanks!!!!

Iv never heard anything good about OCZ but idk, memory looks fine.

Although the Power supply could be bigger. The GTS's minimum is 400w. It might/ should work fine, but if it were me i would get a 650-750w just so its not stretched.

What OS are you going to Run? XP or Vista and 32 or 64 Bit?

I like EVGA mostly because if you have a problem they WILL fix it.

8800GTS Low-end: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130071
8800GTS Higher-end: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130080

The difference lies in the Core Clock.

you just can't go wrong with Patriot RAM, it's fast, stable and highly overclockable.
OCZ makes a decent PSU but there kinda new to the memory game.

I'm using that RAM on three systems OC to 3.0/1666 effective 4:5 divider. I know it works well.

Whatever RAM you use, make sure it is on the compatibility list on the website. The above ram is, the number for the single 1GB stick that is.

Edit: I'm using the GA-P35-DQ6, as far as ram is concerned it is effectively the same board.

wow lots of great replies. I use AutoCAD 2008 for my job and classes and they are huge files so I really need the quad core.
Any other suggestions? Will I notice a HUGE difference between the gts640 and the 1950pro? I'm just trying to justify having to scrape by w/ money for a while after buying the 8800gts.

actually after looking at that link i'm a bit surprised that even at highest resolutions, the 320mb beats the 640 in almost every benchmark. That includes the battlefield benchmark. Can someone please explain this to me?

Your right, no x1950pro 512MB. From what I understand the 8800gts is still a better card than the X1900pro and I have a X1950pro 512MB. So I'm not biased.

Got me, I'm not very heavy into VGAs. Start a new thread in the VGA section. You will probably get more info than you can handle. Don't forget to read the link to the 8800 memory problem.
