I'm building a new computer and i'm trying to decide what i should get for drives...
I will be gaming, watching dvd's (not blue-ray), and burning dvd/cd's

Samsung 203N or 203B  (what's the difference with the letters at the end?)

is the 223 out ? better to get?

Should i get one of these for a burner, and a second faster drive for playing games, or are burners just as fast now?

what's the best connection Sata or IDE?

it needs to connect to a EVGA 780i motherboard

203B is pretty much same as 203N but 203N has lightscribe.  I just bought the 203N and have an 'older' samsung SH-S182M which has lightscribe and works awesome.  dont know if 223 is worth it.  It may spin a little faster but you probably wont see much real time gains...maybe a few seconds.  The CD/DVD drive usually is just for the initial loading of the game and not so much after that.  Most of the time I get fed up with keeping track of game CD's/DVD's for each one I want to play and swapping them out... and just download a no-cd crack from gamecopyworld.com

As far as Sata vs IDE, doesnt really matter if you're worried about buffer underrun because the drive will throttle speed anyway.  dont know about you but i never burn DVD movies at full speed anyway so i dont get any skips.  I'd just go with sata so you dont have to worry about the stupid fat IDE cable when you're trying to do some cable maintenance.

I say go with SATA because IDE is slowly being phased out.

A lot of great SATA DVD/BURNER in the market (~ $39)

Optical Drive Speed has no impact on GAME speed....

On my new PC i have an LG BD/HD/DVD that burn BD & DVD. Just a single drive.

You should consider at least BD/HD/DVD drive. In most scenario one optical drives is good enough unless you are burning a lot of DVD.

Before the year is over most of the optical drive will be BD/DVD-Writer
DVD will be phase out soon.

The enthusiast market seems to be favoring the Asus Burner that won the Buyer's Choice Award over at newegg the last two months.

First of all I like to tell you one thing. You can buy samsung DVD driver. But don't ever think about sony or LG drives. Because it is really worst. I have changed it many times. Samsung is best.
