The FUDsters at Fudzilla are reporting that Phenom will release in November at 2.8GHz while Opteron will be bumped up to 2.6GHz. Our favorite rag The Inq is reporting on the Opteron speeds. I find it more than plausible as 90nm Opteron has dropped in power at the highest speeds.

Also, Brisbane is not a good indicator of the 65m process as K8 was a shrink from 130 - 90 -65nm. I can believe that is the end of the arch, though AMD surprised everyone with a 65nm 5000+ at 65W. I'd say XMas will see at least the 2.5GHz Phenom and Opteron.

Not unimaginable .... but the sources of these things are questionable...

I guess...wait and see? :D

Seems plausible, last I heard they could get the 65nm K8's to run up to 2.7Ghz so they may be making similar progress on K10.

turboflame,

65nm K8's are running above 3ghz.

I guess that's only true for the cherry picked 65nm K8.

yes, look up the 6000+ being one of them, hell, i'm sure some even got those speeds with the 90nm ones.

Except that the 6000+ is 90nm

Currently the fastest 65nm model is the 5000+ black edition which I believe is clocked @ 2.6Ghz

I was talking about being AMD's ability to bin chips that would run at stock speeds of 2.7Ghz, not people overclocking the crap out of the chips.

...which is also built on 90nm process.

Currently there is no 65nm chip that runs at 3.0Ghz stock, although people have achieved 3+Ghz from overclocking.

My 90nm Opteron 185 runs stable at 3001mhz @12x250mhz HT every day. I can even run a 225mhz HT bus on a 13x multiplier with Cool'n'Quiet enabled. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw 2.8Ghz 65nm Phenoms or Opterons in November. AMD is fully capable at this point. The news on the new B2 stepping should be all the evidence we need to conclude that we will see faster K10 before the year is over.
