How's this for a gaming rig upgrade?

Hi all,

I'm at the very edge and ready to make the jump on some new components. I've done alot of reading up on what to get and I think I've finally decided. Please offer any critique or any additional info.

Here's what I've come up with:

I'm using my Samsung 245BW I just picked up. Sweet monitor by the way. I'm really liking the 1920x1200 res.

I already have a BFG GeForce 8800GTX and a Soundblaster Audigy 2. I've been running on an AMD 4800+ Dual Core with 2 gigs of DDR400 RAM.

My plan is to upgrade to Vista Home Premium 64 bit once I've got this put together which is why I'm picking up 4 gigs of RAM instead of 2.

The only thing that had me hesitant was the motherboard choice. I was thinking of going with a 680i chipset for the SLI possibility but after weighing in on it and hearing from many sources that the cost outweighs the benefit by a large margin, I decided against it. I'd rather save that $500 for the next gen video card. I believe the SLI benefit would be more of a factor for resolutions above the 1920x1200 I'll be playing on. As it is right now with my current outdated CPU and RAM, I'm running FEAR at top settings with over 100fps. Don't think a 2nd 8800GTX will cause any kind of a noticeable performance increase.

So? What do you guys think? Should I pull the trigger?

Best Regards,
Chris

  1. Looks good to me. Although I dont know much about that motherboard.

One quick note. That ram you picked is great IMO, but you are only allowed 1 RIM per household. If I were you I would order the set in 2 different orders have one sent to a friends house that way you get the MIR.
