Completely removing Internet Explorer

Hi there, I'm sure this a very commonly asked question, but I'm not sure how to search the forum archives for already answered questions...

Anyways, I have absolutely no use for windows update (never have used it, never will use it). I'm running Windows Xp Pro SP3, and upon searching google have only found forums of people saying that it's impossible to completely remove IE or just a really bad idea. I was wondering if anyone here could tell me how to do so or point me in the direction of somewhere that can? Thanks.
