I have just recently been using an external HDD for backups, it is attached to my pc via an eSATA cable to the built in esata port on my Asus p5B Deluxe board. The first time i used the drive it worked fine and i did a 50 GB backup on it. The next day the computer refused to recognize it and only showed an unknown device in my hardware manager. This is the second time this has happened to me, the first time i thought that it may have been a problem with the drive itself, but now that i have a different drive it is the same problem. Are there any known issues with the Asus boards' eSata port? The drive is a WD My Book Home Edition 750GB. And if there is a problem with my board, is it possible to remove the drive from the case and install it internally? Or is it permanently attached to its casing?
