Greetings,
I have a rather unique problem. I'm running a HP Pavalion a1250n with a HP DVD-RW and have installed Vista Ultimate Upgrade.
To make a long story short, I can write to it from the Widows backup and restore and can copy music to it from my other CD-Rom.
If I try to drag a picture to the writer or do a backup from quicken, for example, it will not write and it comes up with the message that it's a read only device.
I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, updated firmware, etc. and have done extensive research of the problem and no such problem seems to exist. Windows says the drivers are up to date and the drives properties show that it's a recording device.
Is anyone familiar with the problem.
Thanks in advance.
JC
I've had that problem with other programs but my problem was related to virtual drives after I performed updates. I believe your problem is VISTA related but only because you upgraded.
You should check the HP site for and updates and service packs first. It sounds like Vista installed it's own ASPI layer since you can perform functions in Windows so that is probably not the problem.
My suggestion would be to perform any of the HP updates and then to check for and remove any virtual drives. If there were any, I would also go ahead and remove the rest of the device drivers so thay can reinstall at startup.
If that doesn't fix the problem, HP online help may be the next option if the machine is still under warranty.
When you get this resolved, let us know what worked.
Edit - just thought of something else - your recovery and Driver CD from HP should have drivers for your DVD/CD. If you haven't allready - reinstall those and see if that does the trick.
