I just built a new system with a msi p35 neo2 FR motherboard and a e6850. Something strange is happening. When I push the power button, everything turns on but then suddenly dies after about 2 seconds. Then a couple of sencods later, the whole system powers on again and stays running with no problems. I've checked the power supply and RAM ad both are fine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be that would cause something like that?

thanks

what PSU, not the wattage... that's about as good as nothing. If it's a cheap unit then there's a high probability that's the culprit of your problems.

Ahh... The mystery is most likely solved. You have a rosewill, those are HORRIBLE units to say the least. They advertise high wattage on their ratings, however their 12V rails are really lacking juice (This is crucial for high end systems) therefore you cannot power your system properly. This unit in particular advertises 35A which should be more than sufficient, however we don't know if this is peak or how well the unit was built.

Rosewills are known for their low prices, below average stability, subpar quality, and low power (Compared to other units that is, high quality 600W units have around 48-54A on the 12V rails). I would honestly consider getting a decent unit since this sounds like a PSU problem, something like a Corsair 520HX, Antec NeoHE 500 or 550, or Seasonic M12 500 or S12 550.
