ok, I'm going to buy a gaming PC off of Newegg.

http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=5626451

I have vista ready for it, I have a mouse, keyboard and monitor. My budget is 1000-1100.

I have a 20 Inch LCD monitor and a 17 inch Standard monitor. I plan to buy 2 gigs of RAM now and then eventually buy more later so I could run it on a better Resolution on the LCD. I don't need to overclock it. And this will be a gaming specific PC.

And please if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I'm with Emp on this one. For a gaming PC, the GTX is important, the CPU not so much.

How about this:
1. replace the DVD-ROM with a DVD-RW //add $20
2. replace the Q6600 with a Pentium E2160; overclock, if you know how //save $200
3. drop the sound card; add it later, if necessary //save $80
4. replace the GTS with GTX //add $200
5. in January get a $316 Q9450 (like Q6600 but at 2.66 GHz, 45 nm, will overclock better, 12 MB cache instead of 8)

I think E2160/GTX will play games better than Q6600/GTS in the next 4 months, because GTX>GTS and E2160 can beat the Q6600 (if overclocked a bit) in games that don't know how to use quads (i.e most, right now)

After that, Q9450>Q6600 and GTX>GTS, it will definitely kick a$$.

Chip's life will be decreased (Instead of 10 years maybe 4 or 5?), also there are no guarantees to how far you can OC (Some can easily break 3.5Ghz while others can barely manage 3Ghz).

Wow, both the RAM and the motherboard just went out of stock.

Anyone have any other recommendations for a motherboard?

Edit: and what's stopping me from overclocking the 6600? Is it too risky or different?

Overclocking a quad is a bit harder - more heat generated - but there's nothing to stop you. Some guy even reached 4 GHz, but he had some fancy cooling. You can expect 3 GHz or more with a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and SFF21F fan.

LOL about out of stock. Get the GA-P35-DS3R, it's worth the $30 more. (RAID, better components, 8 SATA instead of 4, newer audio chip)
