I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and have been using it's defrag utility (Disk Defragmenter).
Other third-arty manufacturers claim to be good. I think I have tried the one from Diskeeper (can't remember), though it seemed to deep-defrag but it was really too too slow and I never get to finish a 60GB partition.

What would you all recomend to defrag my drives (NTFS)? I have some 200GB drives and are partitioned. I am looking for a software (Utility) that would do a good defrag fo my drives. I don't know what is the good speed rate to defrag a drive. Does the Windows Defrag utility do a good job? If not really, what would you recommend?
Thanks.

I use AusLogic Disk Defrag. Works much better than the Windows built in and works very well and fast. I can see the deference in performance esp. after defraging after I am done editing vids, multiple huge software installs, etc. Link:

Its free too!

Just read and issue of MaximumPC, which listed AusLogic Disk Defrag as one of its must install applications. I havent had a chance to try it out myself but I plan to.

O&O defrag = best! I was looking for the same thing a few months ago, and after some research, I came to this one. It's pretty awesome. Just make sure you do a "Complete Access" defrag for best results. It will take some time to complete, but the results are very good.

I second O&O Defrag. I also second the motion for doing a "complete access" defrag. It takes me a while to complete it, but I can see a small performance increase.

Just downloaded and tried AusLogic Disk Defrag.

Looks good - nice standalone program with uninstall. It's in the style of the 'old' windows defragger with a decent visual display of what is going on.

Thanks!

Thanks you all for all the information.
I tried all I was told about. My favorite is the Defraggler and my second is the AusLogic; though AusLogic is not free if you want to remove the so called Junk Files. So, I will settle with Defraggler which is the free one.
Thanks you all again.

I've become a big fan of Raxco PerfectDisk. I switched over to it from Diskeeper because its less expensive, doesn't do product activation, works very well, and has options for doing enterprise-level defrag operations like Exchange server defrag, Virtual Machine defrag, central management console for managing the defrag scheduling for multiple machines, etc.

One vote for Diskeeper.
Not sure why Diskeeper didn't work for you.
Presently I use Diskeeper Pro Premier and it takes less than a minute to do a complete (full) defrag of my drives in raid.
I didn't pay the high price for the software. I've been using the product for years and pay the upgrade price.
IIRC Diskeeper Pro Premier is $100 to download. I feel that is expensive. But it is a good product and the demand for the product must support its releatively high investment price.

Also IIRC the Windows Vista defrag application is a cut down version of Diskeeper.

I'm using Diskeeper 9 and not convinced with Its results
After completing defrag If I check Performance Map
All Operating system files are scattered here and there and coloured in pink
Pink colour means " Low Performing System File "
And I'm really suffering from Low Performance System File
My PC takes 5 minutes to boot and another 5 to shut down

With all I have read, I think I have come to the conclusion that a "really good' defrag software is not free.

The AusLogic will defrag and at the end will still have some grey spaces (free spaces) about the beginging of the screen and other colors scarttered which tells me that the defrag was not fully complete. I would think at the end, ALMOST all the blue boxes should be at the begining of the window.

The Defraggler is the same also. The screen did not show the "full" defragmented areas fully completed at the end of the process.

The O&O Defrag had a better screen, with the defragmented areas all at the top of the defrag window.

I would not mind DiskKeeper, but some months ago, when I tried the trial version, after more than one hour, it was still running a 12GB NTFS partition.

Perfectdisk is the best I've ever used. I just got the 2008 version. Its "Smartplacement" Defragmentation feature is far superior to the many of the other defragmentation programs' features I've used. Get the trial and see what I mean.

Hey, Perfectdisk is really good. I have three machines and the multi-liscence for just defraging is kinda high for me. I should just keep to the free ones. I like the layout and utilities.

Sorry to everyone else, but O&O is the best... they are the standard in the world of servers.
AND if you dont need all of the advanced features in the latest version... O&O has released O&O 2000 for freeware.

by the way, the windows defrag utility (NT, XP, Vista) is really just the basic version of diskeeper.
And yes... it does suck.

Conclusively, I have decided to use O&O Defrag 2000 and CCLeaner (for now). I really appreciate all your help.

Defrag is over rated in today’s world (NTFS and beyond). Sure I ran it all the time in the old days. You shouldn’t need to defrag a PC more them once every 6 months unless you are doing hard core file swapping. Even my $30,000 2 TB 10 SAS drive NAS running RAID 10 at work with 500,000 files on it and hundreds of users on them at any given time might only need it ever few months.
