Am I overlooking something here or did I get unlucky with this CPU?
I can't seem to get it past 2.45ghz even @1.5v with 55c max temp. At 2.5 one core fails prime95.

A8N-E Bios1013 Settings:
htt x3
DDR 333 OCZ 2g Gold XTC 3.3.3.8 2T
pci-e/pci locked
floppy enabled (mobo quirk)

Take a minute to list all of your Overclocking options on that motherboard.. sometimes you need to disable or lower other multipliers like your memory (which when you raise your HTT from stock you also raise memory frequency.)

Overclocking options are very simple on this board.
They are currently set as follows:

memory 266
timings are very loose 3.3.3.8 2T
HTT X3
FSB 250
PCI-E 100
PCI 33.33
Vdimm 2.9
Vcore 1.5
hard drive plugged into sata port #3
floppy enabled

As you can see I've isolated the CPU by setting the HTT multiplier at 3 and memory at 266.

It's DDR, not DDR2. 3-3-3-8 is fairly loose for DDR. Considering I have some Corsair Value Select DDR400 at 2.5 CAS.

Yes, but while you're trying to find your overclock, wouldnt you want to set at least CAS 4? I mean, if it's normall CAS 2 memory, then sure, it's loose, but he didn't say either way.

It is Cas 2 ddr400 memory btw. I just set the timings very loose to make overclocking/testing the CPU easier as I raise the FSB. I've mem86 tested this ram out at 250 3.3.3.8 2t rock solid.
I might be able to tighten the timings but right now I'm more intersted in trying to get more mhz out of this opteron.

Is it possible that a supposedly fantastic overclocking chip be so bad? I thought guaranteed 2.6-2.7 with an Opteron.
...Help...pls I've got an 8800gt that needs more juice!

CPU Frequency : 265
Memory frequency 266
DDR Voltage : 2.85
CPU Voltage : 1.40/1.45
make HTT x3 (or 4)

Then manually set every timing in the memory
(Example)
Cas : 3
Tras : 6
Trcd : 3
Trp : 3
Trc : 11
Trfc : 14
Trwt : 4
Twr : 3
Use CPU-Z to figure out what your memory and HTT (Bus Speed) is running at
