Dose anyone here at THG - actually have a quad core computer? Have you seen one!

"While there are many reasons to opt for a dual core processor, the quad cores do not yet always live up to their full potential. One reason is limited thread-optimizations of software, while others have to do with the architecture. Though AMD likes to criticize Intel's approach of putting two dual core dies into a single processor as not "true" quad core, the concept works well for Intel on the business side of things, and it very well delivers four-core performance."

is this an amd ad?

what tests back up this bs statement? this right out of the amd marketing book from 6 months ago. Mean while quad core chips tear through every test after test, real and synthetic!

i have to hurry turpit is banning me!

"True quad core concepts put four cores and their cache memories onto a single die."

this is amd marketing not an accepted difinition - a true quad core has 4 cores - all intel quad cores are real!

Some more before my ban:

"Our conclusion is thus simple: if you can get a quad core of similar clock speed for only a little premium over the dual core, go for it; if not, stick to a reasonably priced dual core"

spend some time with an intel computer instead of all your amd optoruns - you see:
1) they multitask better and are more responsive (besides all the things the do better - encoding, video, etc)
2) you be future proof for awhile instead of endless waiting for the next chip

3) for $266 and 3.4ghz easy - the q6600 has no match, amd has not an answer. Sure, if you can only swing $100 for cpu ok dual is the way to go.

finally what really heated my core, THIS IS WHY I MADE THIS POST:

"Last but not least, the availability of AMD's new Phenom X4 by the end of this year, as well as Intel's Core 2 Duo E8000 and Core 2 Quad Q9000, will hopefully heat up competition in the almost boring CPU market."

Since 2006 C2D has been a blast of overclocking fun and 3 fsb that are interchangeable, one new product after another evey few months - qx6700 then q6600 (quad for the masses) then the qx6850 and q6600 g0 which have much better oc potential

what a bunch of bs! until amd has a quad core for the massed its boring! WHAT!

QX6700 AT 5GHZ WITH A PHASE COOLER THATS EXCITING (WHANT TO BUY IT - BAN ME) do i need to paste cpuz with 4.8gghz qx6700 (barely stable)
QX6850 FROM DELL AT 3.6GHZ

Q6600 G0 - 3.6GHZ ON AIR - ANY NEWBIE CAN GET 3.2GHZ NOW WITH AN AVERAGE HSF

BORING? NO AMD BIAS!

IFB#1

ok the article is pretty good its just too amd nice - slam amd for "true quad core" bs - intel quad cores have proven the 800 series dual core produced good fruit from a really ugly dual core EE840 "flower"

It is boring, because theres only been one decent selection of CPUs (C2D obviously) for the last year and a bit. Also, it's funny how you are the only person saying that THG is AMD biased when for the last year they (according to the rest of the forum) have been intel biased.

i joined in jan of 07 - you could be right - and maybe they just go with the underdog. that would make sence

probably why everyone slammed me much in jan-feb when - i posted so many pro intel ...

i am just a whinny intel nano- sized-builder

oh, by the way, have you watched a kid's film called "The last Mimzy"?
Watch it dude, there's one seen that should give a hard on on every Intel fanboy. This should be considered porn for you guys.

I respectfully disagree - i do see your point and THG - this site rocks!

My point, the year of the quad core is anything but boring - boring was 2004 when overrated amd 64 Athenas vs. over heating Pentiums. Then again that was not boring, my Xtreme 4.1 in 2005 where really fast and 4.25ghz out of the box.

a little plug!

Note: I started using the Xtreme name in 2003 before it became really over used and everyone has an "Xtreme" named product. The WSZ X- series has a 3 year cpu warranty and lifetime labor warranty. I considered a 4.25ghz machine Xtreme, shipped at 4.08ghz, with a 3 yr cpu warranty!

2007 is the year of the quad core and its anything but boring!
