Howdy - I'm doing my first full system from scratch (been assisted on my last one), and here's what I want to purchase, please poke holes or recommend replacements. I'm a little flexible on the price.
Pieces I've already purchased:
-Alienware MJ-12 Mid-Tower ATX Case and a 700 Watt PSU (this was a combined woot.com deal that cost 80 bucks, I couldn't turn it down...all I know about the PSU is the specs:
Output – +12V1@13A/18A, +12V2@18A, +12V3@16, +12V4@8, - 12V@0 . 5A, +5VSB@2A
Is that good??)
- Creative X-Fi 7.1 sound card
- Acer 22' Monitor
What I'm intending to get:
GPU: 2900 pro
CPU: 6750 c2d
Motherbord (this is my biggest question mark): ip35pro
RAM: (also not entirely sure on this one) 2gb corsair ram
2 500gb WD hard drives in a RAID 0 config
Tuniq Tower CPU cooler (overkill?)
My plans for the system are to moderately OC the CPU...I guess the Vid card too (since that apparently is the strength of the pro). I don't know a ton about motherboards, but it seems like this is a quality one that can OC easily, run a RAID config, and maybe endure a modest upgrade in 2 years.
I've never OCed before, though...would I need additional GPU cooling? And should I purchase some special kind of thermal paste, or is what comes with the CPU going to be adequate?
I could be convinced to go for 2x2GB instead of 2x1gb if I'm going to be upgrading to that eventually anyways (once Vista becomes worthwhile)...but would a cheaper mobo suit my needs?
IP35 PRO is a very good board
CORSAIR , CRUCIAL , OCZ , MUSHKIN , GEIL... are all good brands
Tuniq tower is an awesome cooler , its not an overkill
well i always recommend an additional cooler for CPU , if u want to OC ,
but i dont recommend additional cooler for GPU even if u want to OC , the stock cooler of GPU is fine
if u want a cheaper motherboard, go for GIGABYTE P35 DS3R or ASUS P5K-E

Abit IP35 Pro is an excellent choice, truly exceptional motherboard. If you can afford it, by all means, get it, you won't regret it. Very stable board with all the features you'd ever need, great overclocking capabilities. My #1 choice for P35 chipset boards.
Ram is very important especially if you plan to OC, I'd personally suggest Crucial, I've always had a great experience with them. This special edition kit right here is superb:
I'd suggest getting 4GB with future upgrade to Vista in mind.
Tuniq 120 is an excellent choice and not overkill in any way, easily in top 3 best air coolers there are. The thermal paste which comes with it is just fine.
Also, as far as I know 2900 Pro wont require any additional cooling, it can easily be pushed close to 2900XT levels with a stock heatsink.
