If this is true, would a PC Power + Cooling Silencer470 @ 26amps be enough with some to spare?
8800GT = 110w?
7950GX2 = 110w

extreme psu calculator pro v2.5
using 7950GX2
3.3v = 5.7
5v = 14.5
12v = 22

You would be pushing it. Although you would be never pushing both cards to there full extent, you should get a bigger psu to handle these.

Seems strange that you have a 7950gx2 and are "upgrading" to an 8800gt? in dx9 games i would think the 7950gx2 would stack up well against the gt (without seeing any figures for the 8800gt of course)

1.I have a 8600GT that I'm upgrading from. 7950GX2 is a comparison for power usage. 7950GX2 uses 110w, 8800GT doesn't exist yet.
2.8800GTS 320 uses 103w, 640 uses 106w
3.8800GTS calls for a 26amp psu
4.My system using the psu calculator for a 110w card shows 22a for the 12v rail

How would I be pushing it? please explain

Thanks for the "helpful" reply

What was your total wattage usage for the entire system?

The only way it would be pushing it would be with future upgrades. Your only leaving yourself a small-ish 4 amp window to further upgrade the GPU, and your processor and such. It should run without issue though.

355w
psu is PC Power + Cooling Silencer 470 (470w continuous, 520w peak)
my cpu is a 64x2 5000 (65w, 65nm)
no more upgrades till I get a new system

I would imagine you would be fine. The Silencer is a good line of PSUs so it's not likely to fail on that load.

Haha i was a little misguided in what you meant... i thought you wanted to run the 8800gt and the 7950GX2 at the same time... that would be death.

You should be fine running the 8800GT on that PSU as its on a 65nm which should use significatly less power than a GTS
