Upcoming Best Bang for Buck Battle!

I have decided that I am going to wait to upgrade my system, until these 2 cards come out...Which card do you guys think will be better and tell me why. Which has better performance? What about price/performance ratio? etc.

I thought RV670 was going to be something like the HD 2900GT or HD 2950 series, not the HD3XXX series which will most likely be R700 and its variants. Traditionally, you don't go up to another base number until you make a new core design, IE R400 series was X*** then R500 was X1***, R600 2*** series.

Ummm how the hell are we supposed to even guess? We only have rumored specs at best! Just drop it and wait until the cards are properly benchmarked...

i think its 3850pro..or something in the 3xxx

http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/RV670_is_Radeon_HD_3800_Series/5358.html

"VR-Zone has learned that the official marketing name for RV670 will be Radeon HD 3800 series. Previously, they are known as Radeon HD 2950 series. Earlier, AMD has made changes to the naming of the Phenom processors and now the changes are being made to the graphics cards too. As such, AMD has decided to drop PRO, XT, GT, XTX from their future HD 3000 series graphics series and the last 2 digits of the series will determine the performance of the card. RV670PRO will be known as Radeon HD 3850 while RV670XT will be know as Radeon HD 3870 when they are launched on Nov 15th."

Fine, 8800gt and HD38**

Happy now? W/e codename you want to call it wont be used after its released anyway, specs are specs, their next high end card is supposedly a dual 8800gt card, and thats as reliable as your source.

Hehe true. I personally can't wait for the 8800gt to come out and see how well it performs compared to the 8800gts. I'm also hoping it falls into the below $250 price range. If Nvidia's next card is a Dual 8800 on one card I sure hope they do it differntly then the 7950gx2's they had.

The GX2 was fine, in fact it was great.

The quad sli was just limited by dX9, which now shouldnt be a problem. Will be interesting to see how nvidia/ati go about tri-sli/xfire.

The Radeon X1050 was actually an R300 series core...but mostly you're right.

I doubt it, 2950pro definatly wont perform aswell as the 2900xt so it cant cost too much... 2950xt wont outperform 8800gtx so that wont cost tons, so its kinda alrite to make some guesses on price.

Theyll probably be £150 - £200, or $250 - $350.

i really not in the mood to spend too much but if i can get a 8800GT 256mb for 179$ ..WHOA! the question is if I only play on 1280x1024, should i even consider the 512 mb version?

Yes, DX10 will need it. Its not just resolution that takes bandwidth and memory its AA and settings too.

For 8600gts 256 and 8600gts 512 there were like 10fps difference on some game si saw, 10 to 20 is a step between playable and unplayable.

However DX9 wont need it. Well.. it shouldnt.

Plan on crossfiring my HD2900XT, if I can use one of these cards, I'll buy 'em simply because the die shrink, however I will not if it's not a higher performer then the HD2900XT. Then I'm watercooling and overclocking the hell out of 'em.

Hey, whaddah ya kno! The HD 3850 is mine (on order from newegg) and u can find it priced at $179. USD. Smokin, no jokin. This card rox. The 8800gt is eeeery, but these ati cards r quite attractive. On hothardware graph views, nv cards smoked the new ati cards, but, whadda i care, when my Santana dvd is on. Rock out, and at least know, that ati is back in the saddle again, and their launch, which came as a surprise on Nov 15, ati launch rocked out, and wuz fun, whereas the 8800gt launch made me puke for dayz. I stink, cuz i care about HD video & launch style, ya know, but these facks r.... undeniably true. Also, a 55nm card, is Not gonna run hot. All this talk about, aftermarket cooling for 'my new' 8800gt. wtf? Grab a card, and let's dance. ciao.
