I am building a computer. I will be using it for gaming. The internet we receive at our house is 16MB/s I believe (could be 20MB/s?). I also need a new router. The router will be located in the basement of our house and will be used by myself, on the first floor, and my roommates on the second floor. The standard seems to be the WRT54G router and the WMP54G. Is this combo going to get me the most out of my internet connection? Ty.

Good day!

It seemes that your talking here of scaleability. It suggest you use wireless N devices for a lot more wider range of signal.

Can you clarify the difference between wireless g and wireless n? Or refer me to a site that explains it? I really know very little about this.

Wireless N or Pre Draft N devices are lot more faster compared to Wireless G.Also when it comes to scaleability it brings wider range of signal compared to wireless G and as well reduces dead spots.

Wireless G- Speed: 54Mbps, Range: 30-50ft. Frequency: 2.4Ghz.
Wireless N- Speed: Up to 270-300Mbps. Range: Up 10-15x more. Frequency: 2.4Ghz.

hey thx! :)

Won't I get the same out of it with either kind of adapter since my internet is limited to the 16 MB/s I get from my provider?

Even if I split a 54 MB/s router with two roommates, that's still 18 MB/s per person, which incoming rate from the provider.
