I was wondering if a soundcard could improve game performance? The quality of motherboard sound is fine/good enough for me. I'm just wondering if motherboard sound will cause lag in a game? I think some folks are blaming sound as the cause for poor performance in Bioshock. Can a sound card improve smoothness? If so which soundcard should I get if sound quality is not the major issue?
Sound cards take 2-5% (SB X-Fi) to 20% (on-board) of cpu power. If you have a powerful cpu and video card, it will not matter. And for the price of the X-fi cards, not really worth it.
