(UPDATE 10-26-07: The 320mb leadtek 8800 for $225 is now gone from newegg. The Leadtek 8800GTS 640 has dropped another 10 bucks, and is now $305 after rebate, still advised you people wait for the 8800GT or 3800HD:)  )

The price drops are apon us! While browsing new egg I stumbled across the 8800's to discover that the prices have started falling!

Leadtek has an 8800GTS 320mb card for $225 after a $35 mail in rebate (rebates suck, I know lol). This is the cheapest I've ever seen for any 8800 card!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The 640mb version from leadtek is going for $315 after a $35 mail in rebate, though this isn't much of a price drop.

Gee.... I wonder if this has anything at all to do with the awesome 8800GT that is about to come out? hmmmm......
Hold your money people! Wait another week or 2! The GT is probably going to be even cheaper yet, but more power (and overclock nicely). Still very cool to see these price reductions! I am getting all gitty with excitement lol.

To think that about 5 years ago, I paid $250 for my then awesome Nvidia 4200TI with 128mb of ram =D

More about : 8800gts 225 bucks

probably some manufacturers are overstocked with old 8800gts(siz)

or afraid to be due to newer stock coming
October 24, 2007 7:34:29 AM

shhhh!! i have my friends 8800GTS on ebay right now. i want to keep the bidding high so please keep all this talk of price dropping quiet for 1day and 14 more hours.

after that, you may presume.

btw, i too remember buying my ti 4200. cept mine was 169.99 from best buy. i had saved up but forgot about tax so i had to dig for coins from my friends car. mine was only 64megs though : ( , although the box was very convincing that the 64mb version outperformed the 128mb version :/  i think the 64 ran like 20 mhz core faster. id still rather have double the memory.

yeah i had too a ti4200. was a great buy at 200$ back then
October 24, 2007 6:44:31 PM

I only had the GeForce 2 64MB... was in high school and had no $$$ for high end graphics cards.
October 24, 2007 7:36:01 PM

I think my Radeon 9500 pro was $150 @ worstbuy and I got my 7800GT for about $200 or so...
October 24, 2007 8:05:52 PM

LOL!

Yep 4200 was a true legend. I use it all the way up until Battlefield 2. The game wouldn't run on it (not supported), so I realized it was over.... I needed a new card =\

Thus the 6600GT is still smoking away in my rusted up, 5 year old box. Funny thing is, the 6600GT really didn't make that big a difference in my games, so it's a shame the 4200 wasn't supported in some newer titles=,(
My 4200 was a leadtek, and I had it overclocked nicely at all times with the included and handy winfox program.
I like leadtek, and this 8800GTS deal is tempting, but I'll wait.

Oh and sorry to choco =D

This is going off topic (sorry to the op) but yeah the ti4200 ... what a card !!! I kept it for 4 years 2002 to 2006 and since then I had 6 different cards !!!
October 24, 2007 8:54:11 PM

ah the 4200...those were the days...i thought my TNT2 Ultra was the **** until i got the 4200...and that lasted till my 6800gt which, IMO was the last great powerhouse, it still plays oblivion like a champ and is now sitting in my backup gaming machine that i make my little brother use (what are little brother for but to drool at older brothers cool toys?) i currently have the 640mb that i have been running for a year now...if the price drops more i might see if i can find one to match the one in my case and run sli...

Im holding out for a 8900 GTS/GTX or whatever the next gen card will be called.

I think you need to wait at least a year for the g100, which will be a true next-gen card.
I didn't even hear rumors of ANY 8900 GTS/X.
There doesn't seem to be any high-end cards out this year, so I'll just get something good enough to play crysis decently (8800GT/2950XT). Then get a high-end card when DX11 comes out (about december 2008 counting the tea-leaves).

I got my 8800 GTS 320 for 279.00 $ about 2 months ago and this was a real good deal back then. I got it on sell and the best thing is that there was no mail in rebate. Well, things assuming normal course, hardware prices usually drops after a while and that's what we're starting to see.

Wait a minute there...... It isn't the 2950 anymore, now it's the 3800HD or something lame like that.... But by the time it launches it might be the 342803191 XZY+10 to the power of 2.
Gah, what an unnecessary name change =\

Otherwise, I am glad to see I am not the only one here who loved the 4200TI =D, maybe it'll be a collectors item some day?

The only rumour out of that is a dual 8800gt card.

Since its so close to the GTX already SLI should provide a decent boost.

8800GX2?

Aside from that, there is nothing to suggest anything.
October 25, 2007 7:45:22 PM

or maybe the new 8800 gts will be a 8900 gts?
October 25, 2007 7:49:19 PM

I remember my Ti4600 being a beast... I think I payed somewhere around $400 for it when it first came out.
October 25, 2007 8:37:17 PM

haha the ti4200, I had it for 4 yrs too, but then after that graphic card processing spead up so fast... (not the fx 5xxx series) but 9700, 9800, x8xxx, x18xx, x19xx, x29xx, 6xxx, 7xxx, 8xxx and so on. Now we probably will rarely see any graphic card that will last 4 yrs for a gamer.

my graphic card history:
??? unknown 16mb <4 yr?> <$??> <thrown away>
ti4200 <4yr>, <came with computer> <sold for $20>
fx 5xxx <2 month>, <$20> <sold for $20>
9800 pro aiw <2 month>, <free> <sold for $100>
6600gt <2 mont>, <$40> <sold for $35>
x800 pro aiw <6 month>, <$150> <sold for $260 I know totally unexpected>
7900gs<4 month and going> <$100>

I think the 9700 pro lasted as well as the Ti4200. Both pretty amazing life. But shoot, a Ti4200 is even playing the valve orange box now. Most of my home LAN was running them at one time and I still have a few laying around.

October 26, 2007 1:41:52 AM

Awesome pic =)

A 4200 playing Half Life 2, now that's cool! Toms should like include the 4200TI in future VGA charts just for fun.

I remember when I got my 4200, that I coulda got the 4600TI, but it was a looooot of extra money for not much more performance... Kinda like the 8800GTS vs 8800GTX.... All these years later, and things haven't really changed =D

October 26, 2007 3:23:39 AM

aaaaahhhh

I hate you all!!!!

I'm still playing every day with my ancient GF4 MX 440 64MB. It's already 5 years old. At least, I must recognize that it still works like a charm.... at least as charming as it can...

Imagine what I am going through...I have a worse GPU than you.

I have this card, well actually a earlier version at 570mhz, and I like it a lot. It's not loud at all. I almost pulled the trigger just to go SLI with another. Lucky it was out of stock.
October 26, 2007 5:58:29 PM

There was an option to SLI those cards?

Oh and nice overclock you had pauldh!! I was running a decent overclock (can't remember the exact stats) but I know it wasn't that high =D
October 26, 2007 6:19:11 PM

Well, the link's dead now, and that GTS isn't listed on Newegg anymore. There's still some fairly cheap ones on there, though...

woah, the gpu pics put a tear to my eyes.. i had a flashback of all the past gaming years....

i still use a leadtek fx5700 at home btw.played doom3/hl2 (but extremely dissappointed with the framerates) with it..im waitin for the 8800gt or the 9th geforce.

i just found it interesting that my other vidcard 8600gt is as fast as the flagship gf6.took 2 generation of midrange cards eh? thats why i love mainstream.

October 26, 2007 8:29:37 PM

I had Voodoo 3 -> MX 4000 -> FX 5600 -> 6600 GT (died) -> 6200 -> X1600 PRO -> 7950 GT OC.

When I first got the 6600GT I was totally blown away how much better it was compared to that MX junk I had (I gave away the 5600).
October 26, 2007 9:13:33 PM

Man you must be like a 1000 yrs old to have owned all of those cards!

WOW! That deal didn't last too long, they musta sold like hotcakes =D

The cheapest 320mb 8800GTS is now this one--
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

XFX model, for $250 after a $30 rebate......

I must say, that I am not a fan of XFX. The 6600GT I have right now is an XFX product, and the drivers won't even install correctly for it (error message- this product seems not to be an NVIDIA product) so I have to install by browsing and digging into the disk.... Their tech support was crap back then, and may still be... Also, I ordered 2 of those 6600GT cards, but 1 of em burned out about 6 months after use.

Well sad to see the 320mb back to an unhealthy price..... But there is still some good news!
The 640mb version from leadtek dropped another 10 bucks! It can now be had for $305 after a $45 mail in rebate =0

October 26, 2007 9:32:07 PM

If you will also notice, there are less choices to choose from on the 320 gts's on neweggs sight. They use to have about 14 different ones to choose from and now are down to 9
October 26, 2007 9:38:09 PM

That is a very good point marike... I noticed it but didn't think about it while browsing there, you are right! Where have all the 8800GTS's gone? =0

BRING ON THE 8800GT w00t!
