I am looking to build a custom (from scratch, ground up, however you wan to define it) laptop using the MSI MS-9803. I would like to use the 8800GTX, but am worried about its immense power requirements. Does Nvidia offer OEM 8700M GT's? What are its power requirements? Etc. Etc.

Well, I'm looking for something not too expensive. Nice, but not expensive. That looks good, but what interface is it, how would I connect it to my motherboard?
There in lies the problem. Notebook GPU interfaces aren't like their desktop counterparts. Laptops use a Mobile Xpress Module, which is a PCI-e slot specifically designed for the laptop chasis. There is no way that you could make a desktop card fit into a laptop, it just won't happen. Also, you need to know that not all laptops can have the GPUs upgraded. So, going from there, what laptop are you looking to upgrade?

The point of my post was to show how in-feasible it would be. For the most part what a laptop has when you get it you'll have to live with untill you get another one.

If it were possible to HALF SLOT cool a 8800gtx aswell as magically making it 1/2th the length im pretty sure nvidia would of done it.
You forgot to add that the current GTX can also draw up to 150-75 watts of power, laptops would die before you got past the login screen if they werent plugged in, IF you could actually get one working anyways

i just reread that...actually, it's just the opposite. i wanna put a notebook gpu into a desktop - well, my "home-built" laptop in a briefcase that im looking to build.

Why would want to put a notebook GPU in a desktop?

You know what ole Jack Burton says at a time like this? Ole Jack says...what the hell[/Jack Burton]
And how do you plan on getting the laptop GPU to work with your desktop motherboard?

If you are worried about power so much just get a low end card, or none at all if power is your main concern.
Using onboard will surely safe you power, heat, and space...if you just plan on browsing the internet and do not want to play any games at all lol.
I read somewhere nvidia are releasing a 8800m GTX, which is a downclocked 8800gt for laptops, wait for that because laptop graphics are damn expensive.
