have fitted a new AMD Athlon XP2800+ to my A7V333 motherboard.

Previously I had an AMD Duron 1000 installed & it ran Win XP home fine.

With the new CPU, I cannot boot from the original HDD and am forced to boot from the XP Home CD.

With the CD boot, I seem to get to various stages of XP installation but the install fails, normally freezing when copying files from the CD to HDD.

I have tried varyious fixes including swapping the graphics card, using a reformatted HDD, changing the memory, upgrading the heatsink & fan and looking at the BIOS settings. I cannot see anything obviously wrong.

The BIOS is 1018 and the board revision is 1.01. The new CPU is recognised by the BIOS and the memory checks out OK. I am using 512 of crucial pc2700 333 memory.

The graphics card is a leadtek geforce fx5200, HDD is Seagate 80gb 7200rpm.

Anyone got some ideas why I cant install XP with this config?

My guess is that ur problems come from overheating.... did u change the cpu cooler when u changed the cpu?
