I haven't been out of computers for a while now. But I'm starting to get back into them. My system is simply out of date and I'm looking at building a whole new system. Here are my plans:

Case
Rosewill TU-155 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower 400W PS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147001
$54.99

DVD±RW Drive
Sony 18X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=172479
$34.99 x2 = $69.98

CPU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 DualCore 6000+ Socket AM2
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80743
$163.00

RAM
Corsair 2GB Kit DDR2-800 PC-6400
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85025-5
$84.90

Motherboard
MSI Quadro Skt AM2 DDR2
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=249626
$83.98

Video Card
Sapphire X1650 PRO 512MB PCI-Express
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=326855
$79.85

Hard Drive
WESTERN DIGITAL 320GB SATAII 7200 RPM 16MB
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10005615
$74.50

Total $611.20

Note: I have the mouse, keyboard, and monitor.

I just want to make a Gaming capable computer, but more of a fast memory cruncher. Any suggestions?

Hey,

Just curious why all your components except the case are from ZipZoomFly, and the case is from NewEgg ??

Just a quick check on NewEgg and your 3 main components (motherboard, CPU and Video Card) are all cheaper there ??

Personally I would not go with the MSI motherboard, let alone a Micro-ATX board.
When you have just got a ATX case !!

I know this might be down to budget, but you severly limit any upgrade option, and totally rule out dual video cards (CrossFire).

I would seriously consider another motherboard, and go with a Full ATX board.
NewEgg lists at least 6 other boards matching or beating this spec for under $100
( ATX and Dual PCIe Slots - no on-board video(pointless if your putting a video card in the board) )

Have Fun

So which one would you suggest? I see your point and I never made that connection. What would you recommend for upgrade options? I wish to stick with AMD if at all possible.

AMD motherboard
ASUS M2N-E SLI AM2 NVIDIA nForce 500 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131096
$87

Again personally, I would never go with AMD, and I would also put more money into a motherboard.

This is the backbone of your system, and the wrong board could really let you down.

As for upgrades and going by the price of items you've selected, I assume you're on a budget.
It all looks pretty good actually, although I might actually select a 500W Power Supply or higher, for future upgrade, or if you ever think about running 2 video cards.

Why 2x DVD Players? The funds could be put towards a much better GPU. If this is for gaming, you are also spending way to much on the PCU and should put more into the GPU.
