Need a new computer for someone. Their system is having problems due to an electrical surge in their house. The system starts up, but the hard drive is having problems and sometimes won't boot into Windows or crashes frequently. Scandisk reported errors which were supposedly fixed or ignored or whatever it does.

Longer story short, I think the video card is okay. Sometimes freezes up, but that might be the computer. It's a GeForce 6800 GT OC 256MB from BFG. If the video card is indeed bad I could get it replaced by their lifetime warranty.

Since this machine is a Celeron I was looking at some refurbished Dell machines for this person. The computer comes with an Nvidia GeForce 8300 GS 128MB.

Which card is better? Where can I find specs to compare how much better one is than the other?

The 6800 GT OC will destroy the 8300GS despite being a few generations older. Look here:

The 6800 is getting nearly twice the frames of the 8500GT.

 

They dont have the 8300GS to compare to but the 8500GT is in the same family and its the next step up in terms of gaming performance.
