Well , I'm trying to write a DVD DL disk @ x2,4 speed , but I don't think it's working at maximum power. I mean , I can't hear the DVD writer working. Is this normal at these speeds?
Programs like Nero usually tell you what speed they are burning at during the burning process
Also make sure that the disc you have is capable of burning at the speed you want. I had the same problem with my new DVD writer, thinking it was underpowered when it burnt a DVD. However I found that the particular DVD disc i was using was only capable of a certain writing speed (the disc was only capable of 4x DVD write). When I burnt again using another type of disc it wrote onto the DVD at 16x speed.
Hope this helps

@hbr - At x2,4 speed , full DL size (about 8.5GB) and it takes long time. Not sure now , but around 35-40 minutes. (Maybe there's a log file in which I can cheack exact time?)
And yes, burning is successful.
@nuke_dukem - I'm using Nero 8 , but I can't see where's the speed. I mean , I choose x2,4 as speed.

40 minutes+ is about right for a full dual-later burn. It seems that your drive is working fine.
From videohelp.com:
Dual/Double Layer(8.5GB) write speeds
1x CLV = about 105 minutes
2.4x CLV = about 44 minutes
4x CLV = about 27 minutes
