Anyone playing the demo? How is your performance. It's not looking good so far. :ouch:

Check out the link:
http://forums.ea.com/mboards/threa [...] 8&tstart=0

It seems people with an 8800GTX are running 8x6 or 10x7 to be playable, and that's with todays beta drivers. Also one guy with 8800GTX SLI says SLI isn't working for him (better perfoamnce without it).

BTW, Only EA preorders can get the demo today, the rest of us have to wait until tomorrow.

there was a guy in incrysis.com and he had single 8800GTX + Core2 @ 3.4 and he was getting 70-80 FPS in 1280x1024

That's good to hear. Looking on about page 13-15 of that ea demo feedback thread, there are a few people with high end rigs claiming pitiful performance.

The guy who thought he had 70-80 fps didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. After installing fraps (his fps was just a guess before) it showed 20 fps.

You know what, I think they talk about that guy with the 70-80 fps here: http://www.incrysis.com/forums/vie [...] =10869&p=2

Quote: "I'd like to see a fraps screenshot baselerd. Those numbers kinda sound like the other guy who thought he was getting 70-80 fps and then installed fraps to find it was more like 20-30. I really haven't seen anyone post a screenshot above 40 fps on high with any system."

The best claimed performance I have seen so far is the HD2900XT owner. But who knows as some people do guess their framerates instead of using fraps and posting legit fps while playing.

Heheh, I have no idea paul. I used to play counter-strike a lot so I'm pretty sensitive to fps changes. Anyone that can't tell the difference between 20 and 80 probably has never even run a tool that measures it.

If they have it I'm getting it from guru3d.com, they usually have demos at un-capped downloads.

I'm not surprised it brings them to their knees, I'm pretty sure thought it will improve as time goes by, its been said SLI doesn't work that just shows how young these drivers are.

Rest assured, if Crysis can't be played comfortably at decent resolutions on today's top hardware then it would be an even bigger fiasco than Bioshock's DRM problem. I'm sure its just lack of driver support.

Posted this in another thread over on THGames:

Trolling some of the Crysis forums, I found this neat little thread about the new single player demo:

http://forums.ea.com/mboards/threa [...] 0&tstart=0

Just a little paraphrase from one of the posts there:

More info, with my QX6850 + 8800 Ultra + 2Gb DDR2 I get:

5fps (1600*1200, 16aa, Very High settings)
8fps (1600*1200, 4aa, Very High settings)
12fps (1600*1200, 4aa, High settings)
25fps (1280*1024, 8aa, Medium settings)

Nvidia Driver version: 163.69

Nvidia released new beta drivers just for Crysis lol. 169.01, I installed them, waiting to try them tommorrow.

And anyone who can not tell 20fps from 80fps needs to go the eye doctor for blindness. 20fps is not playable imo. 60fps is where I like to keep it.

Well those are probably the same people that keep posting in this forum that the human eye can only see 16-24 fps. :pt1cable: They also haven't seen an optometrist since they've been born, and think that everyone else see the world through a hazy foggy tunnel.

Now I'm just worried about the HD2600, so if the GTX/XT are both runnning in the 20s fps @ 800x600, I guess it's 5fps @ 640x480 for me.

Well it's only too look at the pretty effects and then it's on to DX9 and XP. :hello:

BTW, too bad I don't have access to it, I love downloading demos at work. The UT3 demo took me less than an hour, and the Quakewars demo took me almost the same time at over twice the size.
That's the nice thing about riding the CO, at 7-10MB/s it's never ME that's causing the slow down after everyone has gone home, if anything I'm being held back by the onboard T100 ethernet. :sol:

Yep all sorts of places have it out for public download now.... It was rumored to be a leak earlier (and to some degree I still think it was) but Cysis online says this was intentional........ hmmm...

The EA.com pre-order wasn't really nessecary then huh w00t! =D I bet the unlockable vehicle is something we can mod in easy anyways.

Just an FYI, I downloaded and am playing the demo. I have to hand it to Crytek, it runs much better than I expected and is extremely fun so far.
My rig:
e6300 at 2.8ghz
2 gig ram
8800gts 320mb
win xp

Res: 1280x1024
Settings Mostly medium, high textures, high shader detail, high physics

The foliage is so dense and realistic looking, and the fact that you can destroy anything realistically destroyable is so cool. I guess the early spaz reports were due to old drivers and bug problems with the EA downloader. (I got mine from the ea leaked link)

*edit* ran FRAPS and I get between 30-45 fps in the main village with a view of like several miles

Guys, I was wondering, is this game playable AND enjoyable on:

Opty 165 DC @2.25Ghz, 2 GB ram in Dual Channel, with an 8800GTS 640 @ 1440x900? Or would it suck? I was thinking of waiting a dogs age until it hit 30$ and playing it on a newer system then.

I played through Doom 3 with a crappy system and when I finally had a good system it wrecked the game for me, knew what was going to happen.

Just don't want to wreck this game if it is going to suck on this comp.

OK some quick feedback on performance using fraps.

Opening scene when you wake up on the plane:

1680x1050__ settings very high__no aa___15-18fps
1680x1050__ settings high______no aa____23-26fps
1680x1050__ settings med_______no aa___37-41fps
1280x768____settings high_______no aa___34-38fps

Have played into the game a little at the last setting and it does look good even without AA and non-native resolution. I've only just started but so far the frames are staying over 30.

CPU usage is not going over 60% and is generally under 50. It doesn't appear to be making use of both cores very well compared games like Bioshock. Memory usage is at about 60-80% from what I've seen so far.

I guess it depends what resolution and settings you want to run falken. I think it is a sweet game and looks really fantastic, better than anything I've ever seen, at the settings I posted above. Bioshock looked really nice, but outdoor scenes with massive amounts of breakable foliage and amazingly realistic people/vehicles/objects easily tops it in my opinion. Plus I feel like the Predator with my suit with cloaking and superhuman strength.

Forgot I had force 4xAA and 8xAF in ntune.

I get between 15 and 30fps. (fraps doesn't show the fps in its screenshots? And using printscreen and copying it to a paint etc just gives me black screens).

Tried without AA and AF and it runs constant 20-25 (90% of the time at 23 lol pretty sad). The game looks great, especially at night. I just wish I could show you the actual fraps numbers!

Just to add. From what I've seen this game is not the performance disaster that some people are making it out to be. Simply find some settings that work. The developer said some time ago that this game game would scale backward and forward.
You can't expect a game that well scale forward two years to run at high resolutions and highest settings on today's equipment. Maybe some of have been spoiled with some of the great equipment that came out last year and expect to be able to max out every new game.

Just got through the demo, plays ok (not great) at 1680x1050 on all high settings on this rig:

8800GTX
Q6600
Latest nvidia beta drivers
4 Gigs Mushkin Enhanced

I averaged about 25 fps. For some reason, I can't run the 64 bit version yet, hoping for that 20% performance increase.

Also, there is a significant sacrifice of image quality going from very high settings to high settings, i was very disappointed, but the game still looks AWESOME on high settings.

Thanks ryanjm for the imput.

I think this game will really shine on a 1GB DX 11 card, with an Octal with 8GB RAM and PCI-E 2.0.

So I guess I am just going to buy it and enjoy for what it is worth, and replay it when I get a new computer in 2 years.

Happy gaming everyone!!!

Yeah, I barely saw any kind of ram loading or stuttering, it was pretty smooth straight through (considering 22-24 fps average). I'll be looking forward to getting a new pc in 2 years to run this on highest.

2,5ghz opteron w/ 2gb 500mhz ram.

It looks worse than Far Cry on medium.

This was the dumbest release I've seen in a while

ok guys, bit of advice from my experience so far:

while most of the other options can enhance image quality quite a bit and not cause much performance decrease, the SHADERS option causes a HUGE hit in performance to my 8800GTX. With all settings EXCEPT shaders on very high (shaders is on high) i get about 30 fps. When the shaders option is set to very high, my frame rate drops down to 15 or so. Try that and maybe you'll see a nice performance increase.

Reply to rayzor

Wow, I just set shader quality to medium from high, went from 22 fps in an area i saved to 32! (And I also put terrain quality to high from medium). Thanks, that really is a fps killer.

Amazingly, I can play it on my 8600GT and P4 3.4ht at 1280x800, although 25-30 fps, everything mostly on medium, shaders, shadows, and a few others on low. It is one of the worst looking games I have played in years, but it runs on my computer. I like most of the gameplay, gun customizations are cool, but not always too useful, and none of the powers besides armor and stealth are that good in combat (although in the full game, maybe they get upgraded). Good game all around, will be great on full settings. I hope the 8800GT can make it look beautiful.
