Hi,
Can someone please clear up my oc'ing problem. I bought some Geil PC 8500 1066MHz ram because it wasn't much dearer than 800MHz ram and mildly OC'd my E6400 to FSB 350 2.8gig.
My Mem Freq when i set a 1:1 ratio is SPD 800 700, So my RAM isn't really being pushed right? Then if i set my MEM Freq to auto 2:3 ratio i get SPD 800 1050 which i'm guessing is making the Ram work a bit faster right? But now my machine crashes under load.
So my question is am i seriously missing the point here or am i guessing right and i just need to add a bit more juice to the DDR2 Voltage or something.
Sorry if I'm being a no brainer here, help always appreciated.
Cheers,
Panface.

You could give it more DDR voltage + 0.2V max. Or you could lower your Multiplier and increase your FSB to get your RAM to run at a natural high frequency. If you lowered you multi to 7 with FSB of 400 your RAM would be running at 800 1:1. Then with the higher vltage applied you could lower your RAM timings to 4-4-4-12.

Try both with the newest version of SuperPi and see which comes out best, it differs from system to system. Enjoy your tinkering ;).

Cheers for the input Closed deal.
Hadn't considered lowering my multiplier.
What i'd like to do ideally is run the ram at it's limit (just for the hell of it of course) so if you have any suggestions for that i'd be interested to hear.
Thanks again,
Panface.

I'd try different values to get that ram to run at 1200mhz

I have a friend doing that with crucial ballistix

By values do you mean ratios? I.E 2:3 etc

I don't know about your mobo but some have the ability to run your ram unlinked from FSB...

but yes I mean ratios...eg... 1600fsb 1200mem 4:3
