CeBIT 2008: Silverstone: high end cases

Published on March 10, 2008

Even if Silverstone still aims at high end cases in aluminum, we noticed a big change. The manufacturer unveiled numerous PC Home Theater cases the previous years, but was much less enthusiastic this year, like its competitors. It seems this kind of product is growing out of style. We just found a mainstream unnamed prototype meant to come out in June. Read more

I have been looking at PSUs lately because I have upgrading plans(one of my media center PC and for my mom's PC). I have been looking at Silverstone PSUs for awhile because of my first build. I have heard nothing but good reviews on Newegg. Yet, I take those reviews with a grain of salt. I wanted to know what the Tom's people had to say about them. Thanks

Oh, here is the PSU I was looking into for my first build.

Silverstone is very good.
Very Top Notch Quality.

If you want to save a couple dollars, the Corais 450w can handle quite a bit as well for a little less money.

In JonnyGuru.Com I trust.

I generally prefer Corsair HX series, PC Power & Cooling, & Seasonic S12 & M12 series. Seasonic is my favorite.

Silverstone is pretty good and so is OCZ.

Antec is okay, I used to rate them higher, but they tend to cut corners; including the ones they outsource to Seasonic to build.

Forton Source (FSP) makes solid low cost PSUs. But the Corsair VX series gives them a little competition even though the Corsairs are slightly more expensive.

What is your price range?..... If you can afford them the Silverstone Decathalon series or Corsair HX series are as good as you will find for reasonable money. The Corsair HX 620 will power a Q6600 @3.6 with 8800GTX SLI @650 2000, driving 3 HDD and 9 120mm fans. I am using a Silverstone Strider series 850W at the moment and it works flawlessly.

I also using SilverStone Element ST50EFP 500 Watt to power my E6320 @ 2.6 Ghz, 8800GTS @ 600/1900, 1 HDD, 5 120mm fans, 1 200mm fan, 1 CCFL and it works flawlessly too :).

Thanks Jaguarskx. That gives me some direction. I've tried the Siverstone 1200PSU, but it smoked after initial use. Its being RMA'd now. So Im looking for another big PSU. this is what will be in the system.
Asus Blitz Formula
E2160 or Q6600
8800GTX or Ultra, Or 2 ATI 2900
4 gig ram maybe OCZ or Corsair
2-3 SATA HDs
1 DVDRW Dual
The Case is water cooled by Koolance. I'd use it to cool the chipset
I have a swiftech second setup for the GPU and CPU
GPU Cooler is 188w tec
CPU cooler is 226w Tec.

I was told that the silverstone would do it, maybe it will but Im not taking any chances.

Regards
