MP4 Video editors for Windows

Can anyone point me to any free video editors for Windows that are MP4 compatible? I've been capturing some videos with my phone that I want to edit but they don't work with Windows Movie Maker. I tried converting to AVI but the quality turns horrible. I just need a very basic program.

Handbrake doesn't really edit, but it does a great job of converting video files. You might be able to go into AVI preserving more quality using Handbrake's options.
Of course, you're talking about phone video, maybe the quality just sucks and you're noticing that when you view it on a bigger, higher resolution screen.

It's actually 1080p, and even when viewed on a bigger screen it looks very nice.
Are you sure there isn't another way other than converting? If there is I'd rather keep that quality.

well, the only free video editing software I know is Windows Movie Maker...
I edit videos with ShowBiz, it supports almost all kinds of video formats editing, such as mp4, avi, flv and so forth. You can treat it as mp4 video editor.
For me, ShowBiz is like the imovie substitute for windows, I can't love it more.
