worried about new games...

I currently have an AMD 64 3400+ (939), and ASUS x1800xt 512mb, and 2gigs of G.Skill DDR400 ram. I bought my system about a year and a half ago, thinking that it would last me for a while...I remember that the reason i went with the single core 3400+ over the dual core was because, at the time, the single cores would outperform the dual cores and weren't nearly as buggy. But the other day, i had my friend bring over a version of Collin McRae's Dirt, and it tore my computer a new...well u get the drift...the game didn't run nearly as smooth as I had expected...for the first time ever, my comp couldn't handle a game. Now that new state-of-the-art games are gonna come out soon (Crysis, Unreal Tournament III, etc...the list can go on and on...), I was wondering if my comp will still be able to handle them. I play my games on a standard 19" lcd so all i play at is 1280x1024.
