I had probs with a few games after I installed a radeon HD5450
right click desktop to goto Display Properties
then Settings Tab
then Advanced button
goto Troubleshoot Tab
turn acceleration to none
I don't think you need to switch off write combining
You may now be able to play it.
Other games with issues can benefit from this as well, keep upping the acceleration tab 1 notch at a time, Doom 3 started working at one notch before the full acceleration.
I turned everything back up after a few days to play GTA4. AOE2 & Doom 3 still worked at full settings.
Until I needed to send a tribute in Age2 which crashed the game, so hence turned the acceleration off and was able to get the tributes menu.
Bit of a pain manually setting the graphics throttle, probably an automatic solution to slip in with the shortcut.
