Need PC for science fair project....

Hi guys/gals,

Haven't been on the forums for some time. I had a lot of home work (esp. AP World) and band practices. We got our science fair project 2 weeks ago. The topic that I will be doing is "A new Heatsink Design" (a design that is not in the market). I have a $300 budget to build a bare bone PC that I will be using to test. I would need a cheap but good Intel motherboard with OC( 1333 fsb, cause i will be testing different CPU's) a Intel dual core CPU (a E2xxx?) 1 GB ddr2 ram, a hard drive and a cheap case with a PSU. I need one with a PSU because I already have a good Antec in my OC'd Celeron D :pt1cable: that I replaced after the old one failed, I will be using the PSU that comes with the case temperely.

You are not going to get that for what you want to spend.
Find an old used Pentium D or other P4.

They tend to run quite warm.
Much warmer than the newer C2D Chips.

If you want to test HeatSinks, you want older hot systems.
Not new expensive cool ones.

Zenmaster is right. The prescott cores in particular ran very hot, and would be perfect for you to demonstrate a new heatsink design with. If you search ebay, you can probably find some old Prescott cpu's for fairly cheap, along with the motherboard that supports it.

Cannot vouch for the quality of the "cheap" PSU as I never use them. MB has built in graphics, so no vid card needed. Standard CD/DVD ROM as no requirement for DVD/RW. Price does not include shipping. Went with standard RAM since you will be overclocking CPU only.
