I've just built a lovely small form factor PC based around a SilverStone SG01 (pictures to follow). I have used an AMD Athlon X2 5000+ (Brisbane Core). I'm really pleased with the temperatures considering it's such a small case, plus I'm using the NT06-Lite heatsink only.

The issue is that the second core is always 7 degrees hotter than the first. Core 1 runs at approximately 19 degrees, whilst core 2 is 26 degrees (under load these only go up about 3 or 4 degrees).

There's nothing wrong with these temps, but why should one core be hotter than the other?

Many thanks in advance.

Well, I'm on a E4400, right now using CoreTemp:

Tcase is 26C
Core 0 is 33C
Core 1 is 37C
Room Temp 24C

I can only assume that the sureface of the IHS, and the bottom of the HS are not totally flat.

In my case I wouldn't worry much. On a full load using TAT/Prime95/Othos both cores end up at the same temp. So in a sense the heat expands, perhaps what evens it out some.

Or it could be a lil off on calibration. You could lap both the bottom of the HS and top of the IHS to make it flat, but to me, it really isn't worth it. What matters the most to me, is the ambient or room temp.

Ah, I see. So it could possibly be the heatsink is not completely flat, or perhaps I haven't got it tightened equally.

For example, I've just switched on my PC. Core 0 is 15 degrees and core 1 is 23. Maybe I'll take a look tomorrow.
