I was just curious if anyone else had had this sort of experience with Newegg's RMA department?
I recently built a new system. I sourced all the parts from Newegg over about a month. The problem started with a faulty PSU but was not diagnosed until very late in the game.
I purchased an ASRock Z77 MB (I think that is the model, going from memory) and assembled everything. This is not my first build and I know how to put a machine together especially the care that one needs to take when installing the CPU.
On first booting the machine failed to post (but this is not a failure to post thread). I went through all my usual troubleshooting, made sure there were no screws shorting out the MB, that all the memory was properly seated etc. It powered on ok, and the MB had LEDs that led me to think that the issue was with the CPU or a faulty MB.
I spent nearly an hour and a half with the ASRock technical support and I cannot say enough nice things about those guys. They were patient and thorough and at the end of the call they decided it was more likely a faulty MB then a CPU. They also recommended I take a picture of the pins before sending it back to Newegg to protect myself. I did so and the pins were pristine.
RMA'd the MB back to Newegg but I needed the computer now not in two weeks so I went and purchased a new MB from a local store. I assembled the new computer and was shocked to get the exact same problem. Now I realized I'd probably RMA'd a MB that wasn't actually broken but it was too late. It was either a CPU problem or a PSU. I borrowed a friend's PSU and it turns out the cables that supplied the power to the CPU were faulty.
About a week later I get the MB sent back to me from Newegg saying that the pins were severely bent and that they would not accept it. And they were right! The pins were severely bent. BY THE NEWEGG RMA department!
I almost blew my top. If they had just sent me back my MB in the same condition I had sent it in I probably wouldn't have cared. I could have used that board as a media center or built a new computer for my folks. Instead they broke the board, sent it back and blamed me.
I posted a complaint on the BBB where they basically make the same claim. Useless.
So my recommendation for people? Newegg is fine for memory, HDs etc. But source your MBs locally so you can see exactly what the pins look like when you buy a new board and what they look like if you have to return them. Newegg's RMA department is not above damaging a board and then blaming the buyer.
