I have recently purchased the Alpha Dog XFX 8800gt,and I seem to be having problems. They are :
1. Fan is always on low even under load, except on boot-up for 1st 3 seconds then goes to low
Rivatuner 2.06 doesnt help either.
2. Under Vista Crysis couldnt last for more than 10 seconds, display driver would stop working
3. 3dmark 06 has never finished under Vista. same prob as above.
My P.C was Overclocked, changed everything to stock still same problems. GFX card always at stock.
600/1800
What I have tried.
1.Drivers 173.xx that came with card, 169.02 and 169.04 = still no change !!
2. Format my HDD and go back to XP = Same problems except 3dmark 06 always gets bad artifacts on
Last SM3 HDR3 test which is the Antartic one, sometimes PC locks up altogether, says O.C failed on reboot
but when I change everything to stock still I still get bad artifacts on last 3dmark test ???
3. Unplug all extras from my PSU = still same problems.
4. All these tried non Vista and XP, XP slightly more stable but still same problems
BTW I have an Intel 2140 on 3GHZ OC 1.6 when stock and 2 GIG Corsair XMS DDR2800, Asus P5K Mobo
Also On GFX box it says recommended 500W PSU = My PSU is a thermatake 480W peak 550, with no native 6 pin PCIe
cable, So i use adapter , 2 four pins into a 6 pin, into one PCie 6 pin slot on card, which came with the card.
I think I have one of 3 problems.
1: Need more powerful PSU
2: Driver related problem
3: Faulty card
Thx for your input guys, just a quick edit
Somebody pointed out that I need to have the 6 pin adapter connected to two seperate rails, and Ive only got the 6 pin to two 4 pins on one rail ? could that be problem.
Also temp is not a problem Thermaltake Xaser case with ample fans, yes also tried with side off
Thx Guys
Tried 2 rails its a no go
will RMA today and get new card if that doesnt work then looks like i need bigger PSU
core temps are around 80 under load, also my fans dont go high under load. stays on minimum
have you had a bash at trying to manually increasing the fan speed to stay high? Im not 100% sure, but i think ati tray tool works on nvidia cards aswell, so you may wanna try that. With it you can play around with the fan speeds.
Though it does sound like a faulty card.

I believe using 2 4pins still only delivers 75 watts, not enuff. Try from both rails first, tho artifacting is a major concern, unless its caused from a heat issue which isnt any good for any card, let alone a brand new one. See if nVid monitor works to check your temps, tho you may have a faulty card or undervolting/damage from heat.

PLEASE HELP
I have the exact same problem on Windows XP with Radeon HD 2600XT!!!
The card worked fine for about 2 months. Now it crashes under XP , but under Vista it works fine.
When I reinstall the video driver and restart the XP the card is working, however when I restart second time, then it starts crashing.
Tried everything, fan control, downclocking, uninstalling CatalystControlCenter, stopping all services and startup programs, still same problem. I am desperate
Please someone help!!

Problem has been resolved
It was a faulty card, dealer tested it and comfirmed it faulty
gave me a replacement on the spot
decided to get a corsair 620 HX PSU just in case.
