I have an ASUS P5B-E board with 2 Seagate HDs set up without any RAID configuration. Just two separate drives. I want to remove the drive that does not have the OS installed. It is plugged into the #3 SATA connector which is for the slave drive. When I unplug the SATA cable from the board and reboot, it goes up to the point where Windows Vista should start, but instead I get a black screen with just one white dash which flashes continuously. What am I missing here?
Thanks.

It may have the BootMgr on it.....
My D drive does...because i picked the wrong one when installing....They are the same brand and size model # is the same except 3 letters at the end which didnt get displayed during install of Vista...

While talking to a fellow geek, he mentioned there are programs out there that you can use to move it to your main drive...or using the Vista disk, i dont have any links but that sounds like your issue.

Well, when I hooked the drive back up and unplugged the other drive, it came to a halt sooner and said that there was no operating system present on the drive or something like that. After seeing that message, I assumed that I was disconnecting the proper drive the first time.

So you are saying that perhaps BootMgr is on one drive (the wrong one) and the OS is on the other, right? I'll do some searching around for that program.
